I feel like most the consistently decent viewer numbers WoW streams are about arena PVP, and FFXIV doesn't really have anything you can do constantly that is entertaining to watch like that. Not that arena PVP is exciting, but it's at least dynamic and you're watching people compete and try to win.

Far as I know nobody really takes any PVP in FFXIV seriously, it got a lot more accessible/desirable for randoms to do with Stormblood when they totally separated the PVE/PVP skills, but I don't think it'll ever appeal to people to make an active PVP scene like WoW has.

A lot of us that play FFXIV are rather out of the loop with WoW's rotations, and have heard of some hunter spec or something that only uses like 3-4 buttons for its rotation, rather like Shadow Warlock back in BC was 99% Shadow Bolt. And thusly a lot latch on to that as an example of how all classes currently play, though that's probably not true.

In the same regard, FFXI's battle system is pretty much entirely unrelated to XIV's current one, which is more similar to WoW.

That's wrong. WoW healers can heal and DPS. Depending on situations, if the healing required is intensive, they'll focus simply on healing. If iis mediocre to easy, healers can absolutely focus on dpsing and heal occasionally. Its all situational. Mana wise, its more optimal to simply stick to one or the other.

I haven't played WoW since BC, but I'm pretty sure it's just that damage numbers are generally higher. WoW has interesting healer mechanics like Discipline doing damage to heal. Resources were also an issue back in BC, and while healers would have down time, using their damage spells would waste too much MP to be worth it and might put the party at risk later so they'd just end up idling.

I suppose I should've phrased it differently. WoW commonly presents those situations where healers should be focused on healing. XIV gives their healers a LOT of dps focused skills, and mechanics to allow them to heal and dps simultaneously, and it's very rare for them to have to 100% focus on healing. And on top of giving them leeway to heal, all healers are extremely strong at aoe. White Mages can regularly beat DPS classes in AOE situations while also actively mitigating damage to the tank since their AOE stuns.

I don't kick lazy healers, but I do not see how they don't get bored out of their fucking skulls not doing DPS. I've tried it before, you're just standing around most the time, the only way to make it so you're pressing a button more than once every 10 seconds is to exclusively heal with Cure/Physick/Benefic, and even then there'll be long dead patches.

Healing for WoW can be very intensive as the damage to tanks/raid can get quite insane. Those dangerous spike damages are probably the reason why most wow healers focus on healing. Even during easy phases, a random spike of damage can kill the tank/raid easily within 1-2 second frame.

I've played healer in wow, overwatch, tera, some other korean/chinese mmos, etc.
