it's only the history of the world and characters you miss out on by not reading descriptions

Item descriptions aren't story. They're lore. The story in the three games is: "You're a janitor. Here's a mop. Go clean up all the vomit."

I like how dark souls 2's intro says you'll get to the end of the game and not really understand why you're there
