Phase 2 is laughably easy no matter your build. If you want to beat it on easy mode, just stack magic improving trinkets and use the up spell over and over. Makes the entire Radiance fight a joke.

Seriously, once I started using quickslash I basically never unequipped it for the entire rest of the game. Only time I swapped it out was for Soul Tyrant since you usually can't get more than one hit in on him at a time anyway without opening yourself up to damage.

I wouldn't even call that a phase. For me, the three phases are, the opening part of the fight, the segment with the downward stabbing light spears, and then the part on the platforms. Additionally the first phase is split into two sections, one with an open field and another where half the field is spikes.

The ending bit is extremely easy, I did die the first time I got to it though because I didn't understand what was going on and got hit by one of the light beams while I had almost no health left.

Someone explain the actual story. Here's what I gathered:

There used to be a king which is the dude in the white castle. Only he was a giant fucking worm thing which is now hollowed out (the snow level).
Once he died or bailed the infection started.
To mitigate that, they sealed it within the Hollow Knight which required 3 strong people to be asleep (?). But all this failed and the infection broke out again. You can re-absorb it or ... fuck I don't know. Who is the Radiance? Who is the guy who made you? What are you?

The infection seems to be some mind robbing disease, the initial stage of infection is seeing a bright light in their dreams. The radiance is that light which you kill by going into the dreams of the vessel containing the disease.

The king spawned by reincarnating from a wyrm, everyone started to worship him as he established a civilization, including the moths who started to forget the radiance

The king created the vessels to contain the infection and though that the hollow knight was the perfect vessel because it was the only one that survived being created. However the player character was actually a better vessel that spawned just after hollow knight (also hornet was a special creation similar to a vessel but created ot be an actual being and not a tool)
Hollow Knight couldn't hold in the Radiance forever because he wasn't the perfect vessel the king thought he was so the kingdom fell eventually anyway.

To represent it it's shown with orange eyes when you fight him, indicating that Radiance is leaking through. If you use your character to seal Radiance your eyes remain pitch black.

The real final boss (The Radiance) was butthurt that people were paying attention to the King rather than it. It creates the infection by fucking with the bugs that have stopped worshiping it.

The King creates various vessels, empty beings designed to contain the infection. Most fail (the Abyss) and the one that succeeds for a while is the Hollow Knight

The Seal it up with the Dreamers making up the seal on the door. Around the same time the Pale King fucks off to God knows where.

You enter the world as the Hollow Knight's seal is just starting to fail, which is why you see mildly infected creatures as early as Greenpath.

Depending on what ending you actually got, you either take the Hollow Knight's place and kick the infection can down the road, or if you did a better job, you actually defeat the Radiance and thus stop it.

Everything near the end makes me want to shove nails into my eyes. The bullshit backtracking to the abyss, the endless garbage of the white palace and the end boss designed to make you angry. Your only good bet is to take as little damage as possible in the first form then get VERY lucky in the second form where she spawns right above you on a platform so you basically hit her (with the quick nail charm equipped) a shitload of times and then you just pray you have enough health and luck to make it past the third part.

And then you get a dull 5-second ending for your troubles. See, it's funny how the majority of the game is so good and has so much cool stuff in it so getting 100% is worth it to see everything it has to offer (which is a hell of a lot for a $15 indie game) but man do I hate that ending shit.

You can somewhat face tank it with blue HP. Especially if you're using Quick Slash which completely trivializes Phase 2

use quick slash on The Hollow Knight to spam him down before your health hits zero. Once you can kill him in less than a minute, it's not so bad getting back to the second boss.

Nail abilities aren't really worth it on enemies you need to be in the air to hit. I just used up+slash. I also had Quick Focus and the ability that allows you to move while healing. With both of those, the sun beams that extend out of her are basically a free three health. Besides that, I just didn't pay attention to hitting her and focused exclusively on dodging what was around me. She doesn't do touch damage so you'll eventually end up underneath her without any damage going out on her end. As for phase 2, moving while healing is OP. Just get a platform between you and the boss and move back and forth on your own platform while healing.
