In 1996 Tomb Raider was considered an exercise in "girl power" it was a good game that arrived on the heels of Doom and Duke Nukem. Tomb Raider was a good game with a strong female lead. It was intended to be sexualized and graphics weren't great so her tits were gigantic. Laura Crofts huge rack meant pride and power, a celebration of women.

She's not exactly ugly, but man, I preferred her face in TR 2013.

After ignoring it for 20 years, I finally got around to playing most of the games in the series. Though the only Core Design games I played were 1-3, I'm going back for the others later. Think I would have liked the originals more if they had decent controls and the enemies didn't shoot magic bullets in Tomb Raider II (and if half of TR II wasn't an action game). The Legends series was okay, though honestly my favorite games are the TR 2013 and Rise.

Tell me about it. When I mentioned this I got the "You weren't there!" from someone who was born a few years after the first game came out. I remember actually playing a bit of Tomb Raider in the late 90s/early 2000s and even then I thought that the controls were godawful.

the controls were awful at the time yes but there was nothing better to compare to

and the atmosphere was unmatched, find a lostvalley with dinosaurs or a completely quiet tomb and suddenly a lion on your face

the initial spark of genius that birthed tomb raider 1 was so great that it still keeps the new soulless, talentless, loveless cash grab games somewhat alive today

New Lara won't prove to be an enduring or iconic character in the same way that old Lara did. If they stopped making TR games no one would even remember her. It's a shame that a great franchise had to be torn apart and rebuilt to fit politically correct millennial sensibilities with absolutely no trace of creative spark, soul or wit, but that is the state of modern Western culture.
