It lets them update chat a lot more, your friends can invite you when you are away from the console so you know to get on the console, it lets them outsource the computing for the chat, and it lets me use my Bluetooth headphones or any Bluetooth earpiece so I don't have to worry about buying something just for the switch. Say what you will, but if you wanted chat on the switch itself you are wrong, but if you are just saying the app could work a little different then refer to my first point in which they leave themselves open to do a lot of updates doing it this way.

I've not used a PS4, but I remember my PS3 and not many people used voice chat. But on Xbox 360 they did. Shipping with a headset was a good idea.
PS3 reminds me more of PC. I have a high quality microphone hooked up at all times, but I don't really chat that much because no one else is. They have mics I'm sure, but there was something about getting that headset with your system that just made people want to actually use it with the 360.

I don't think the app itself was that bad an idea as long as they executed it properly. Navigating the menu on a phone would be way easier than with a gamepad.

Once the tech started to get more powerful, the creative elements that would come over from Hollywood and from television all of a sudden – that was what gave us Rockstar, and what the Houser brothers, to their credit, did for games. I mean, you look back on the history of this industry, you can point to these moments and say, 'That's when everything started to change.'

And we show him this, and it's subtitled in Japanese, and when it comes to that piece he just [slams his hand on the table], 'This is ridiculous. You have made them say this. Nintendo is the great brand, nobody would ever say this, you have falsified!' He just gets in my face. So I said to the translator, 'Tell him to fuck off.' And the poor guy looks at me and says, 'There's no expression in Japanese.' I said, 'I know there is.' And that was it. That was the last time I ever set foot in there.
