Overwatch used to have 4 more heroes on release than paladins. Now it has 4 less with one more for paladins being announced tomorrow and coming out a few days later. It's also 20$ for all champions or free if you'll grind.
How is this not a massive losing game in terms of content releases? Also it's not like Overwatch is more balanced for its lower champion count.
I'm not a huge fan of either but I'd prefer a handful of useful characters instead of a game like LoL where there are god knows how many but only a select few are useful depending on what the meta is saying.

Quality over quantity.
If I wanted to play Overwatch for free I'd play TF2.
