Well it's fine to pre-order something that is niche, that will have low supply, and you want it new. Many niche games come with physical preorder/first print bonuses that are nice. DQ8, while not exactly niche, game with a nice bonus when bought new for instance. Of course you can always wait, but there is no guarantee for a new copy. If you don't mind used copies you will find them anywhere.

However, there is NO reason to preorder AAA western games, or any other western game from a big publisher. Sure interest will be highest when a the game initially comes out, but you could be preordering a turd that will have millions of copies in the wild. Just fucking wait on those.

It's not an extra fee, it's an up front cost. It's so you don't have to worry about arriving later in the day and having shit sold out when you get out of work. And pre-ordering usually gives you extra shit. It might be shit but if we were to walk in and buy it from the same store at the same time, I'd get the bonus and you wouldn't (sometimes you do, but it's not the norm)
