Well done.

Yes.

For $5 sure, you'll get some mild enjoyment out of it. Just don't expect it to be as fun as the first.

Maybe therer will be a third one.

I expect disappointment so anything better than that is a success.

Pirated it a week ago and I'm having fun desu. I dont do side quests though, only main. Heard sidequests were trash and they all look the same so I'm staying away from them. 7/10 sounds like a good score so far.

Did the PC version ever get the improvements of the "definitive" versions?

Weird how OTR costs less to unlock than vanilla DR2

DR3's not that bad if you don't mind an open world action game for dicking around in

Be thankful DR4 isn't in the bundle, that game is a burning mound of dogshit. It's not worth getting even for free.
>>
It's pretty fun, you'll get at least 12 hours out of it and even more if you go after all the side shit (I personally didn't do all of it because it was a lot of shitty time trial races that I loathe in all games and some copypasted filler, but you may enjoy it more). Beautiful graphics. Very fluid movement. Story isn't that interesting.
>>
>>384487942
Yeah I heard the same actually which is kind of a weird thing given the luke warm reception and lack of marketing

The worst thing is that it's not even a bad game, and it improved quite a lot on the original.
It's STILL not living up to the full potential, it still failed to fix the most important things about ME, but it wasn't bad.

>>384492078
Different art direction, and more importantly completely different approach to level design and environments. Original Mirror's Edge was a completely controlled, static, prebaked corridor.

New Mirror's Edge is open-world with shit like day-and-night cycles. It actually imposes completely different limitations on what you can do with your graphics. There is no way to maintain the same level of fidelity between the two damn models, even with the increase of power we have seen between them.
>>
Keep this thread alive so I can write up an essay on how exactly this game is one of the worst sequels ever created
>>
>>384493029
There are several segments that are literally impossible to pass without using weapons. As in "doors close until you kill everyone, and enemies are placed in such way that they WILL ALWAYS SHOOT YOU unless you actually shoot them first.

You don't get to really chose when you run and when you shoot in ME1. It's decided by the level designers.
>>
>>384493809
I think the thing is, did Catalyst benefit from an open world or ToD cycle in any way?
I can't say that it did.

In ME1?
I don't recall any areas like that.
In Catalyst there's a specific mission that's literally you in a room with enemies that pile in 2-3 at a time that you flat out have to fight or the game simply doesn't let you progress.
There's a difference between enemies that are hard/near impossible to avoid and a game locking you in a room and forcing you to fight them even if you could feasibly escape if the game didn't force you to fight.

It's hot garbage, but let's not pretend the first one was good guys c'mon.
>>
>>384493972
>I can't say that it did.
Yes, it did.
It fucked up a lot of other things, but the open-world is CLEARLY a good addition to the series. Now: Catalyst has some of the absolutely WORST open-world designs I've ever seen in a open-world games. It's atrocious.
And yet it's STILL better than the first game. So yeah. It's such a massive improvement that even at the worst fucking imaginable execution it's still a plus.

Every other change to the formula has been for the worse. The new combat system is awful, arguably even worse than the original gun sequences, the new art direction is terrible, the new story is... well both games have equally as shit storytelling, but the first one at least had decent world-building. The art direction is considerably worse etc...
But the open-world was an improvement. Now - next time they need to just NOT FUCK UP the world-design as badly, and we would have a god-like game.

>>384494278
>I don't recall any areas like that.
You remember wrong then. Because all main combat segments of ME1 were mandatory. Which does not make the combat segments in ME2 excusable (they are SHIT). Just that it's not anything new to the series.

>>384494356
And yet despite that, the core mechanics and core principles still made it a fairly enjoyble game. Fantastic at times, even. Though pretty fucking awful at others.

Try actually playing it instead of just watching analysis. The video you posted (I'm well familiar with it) is right, but it does not say that the game is bad. It just says that it fails to be great because it under-utilizes one of it's greatest strenghts.
>>
>>384494278
I think you had to kill or knock everyone out in the underground area with the green pipes, plus in one of the last areas called the shard or whatever. But you never have to use guns, you could just disarm and knock out.
>>
>>384494635
>Because all main combat segments of ME1 were mandatory.
Kek, no they weren't, even that one area where 4 or 5 SWAT enemies that were heavily armored that required you to climb up 1 or 2 pipes somewhat slowly could be passed without fighting them.
>>
>>384485910
sjw crap and forced diversity kills every game
>>
>>384487656
This. EA's marketing of this game was quite literally non-existent. It wasn't even on origins main page when it first came out so it doesn't surprise me at all that not a lot played it.
>>
>>384494697
>I think you had to kill or knock everyone out in the underground area with the green pipes, plus in one of the last areas called the shard or whatever
Nah, in both of those areas you could just pass by the enemies.
There's also an area where you had to take out a bunch of servers that people seem to think you had to fight in order to pass, but even then you could finish it without engaging any of the enemies.
>>
>>384494635
>but the open-world is CLEARLY a good addition to the series. Now: Catalyst has some of the absolutely WORST open-world designs I've ever seen in a open-world games. It's atrocious.
Uhh...
Catalyst's open world was definitely nowhere near as good as the linear environments in the first game, and they definitely weren't better designed.

>>
>>384494885
In the parking of the boat you have to fight the enemies otherwise they kill you.
In the server room there is a guard leading to the exit staircases, you have to fight him.
And there is another place on a roof where you have to climb a pipe and there is three guards waiting for you.

I'm talking about doing it in difficult mode, because that's the only way to play ME.

>And there is another place on a roof where you have to climb a pipe and there is three guards waiting for you.
And again, you don't have to fight them.

Like I said before, there's a difference between enemies being extremely difficult to pass (especially on higher difficulties) and the game artificially locking you in a room and forcing you to engage enemies before actually letting you leave, which happens in Catalyst.
Face it anon, combat had a much greater focus in Catalyst, hence why they added all that stupid shit to it.

>Did you somehow noticed that the open world was not replacing the more focused, linear levels, but it was set next to them? The actual fuck?
Dumbfuck, most open world games have some linear levels/elements to them, any game with a fucking story is going to have linear elements because that's how a progressing plotline works.
The open world shit was tied into the story as well, just because the actual main missions weren't stupid fetchquest shit doesn't mean they didn't take place in an open world environment.
