So is it actually worth playing this a second time?

I was prepared to do several playthroughs at first but seeing as how I am forced to play that autistic fuckboy 9S I am really considering just dropping the game altogether

worth it ? yay or nay

Except you aren't. The sidequests are new along with the ones that you didn't complete in A and the mainquests are slightly different and then very different.
You are supposed to know because it is very obvious that the game is nowhere near complete when you reach ending A and there is a fucking message from Square Enix that tells you to keep playing.

9S is best boy.
Everyone hates him at the start.

Give him a Spear plus standard Weapon Up chips along with shockwave and proceed to rape everything.

His Heavy Attack will throw the spear and pierce enemies.

He's easily the most OP character OP. Playthrough B is much faster than A. I won't mention C/D/E because of spoilers but its not nearly as dull/repetitive as you're expecting. A lot of it is brand new content.

IS the hate playing as 9shota a meme? I uniroincly enjoy his combos and hacking, especially using the chip to make the machines scream in pain after being hacked. Controlling machines are pretty cool. Not mentioning his playthrough on route c was one hell of a fucking ride.

I just got the game

Im on hard mode and everything kills me in one hit which seems like a mistake, in the demo hard mode took your consumables before you died

Also should I be doing all the side quests or is it better to just do what I feel like, theres an awful lot and they are pretty spread out
>>
>>384459872
Side quests aren't necessary. But they flesh out the themes of the game and some of them are great.

You'll get to a point later in the game where you can go back and do them if you like.

Hard Mode is rather severe however with the increased HP/Dmg that only gets eased by getting good chips.

A lot of things will one shot you on hard mode until you get a good chip setup going on and even them some things still will. As for sidequests do them all but you can put them off until you the mainquest gives you fast travel. Most of the sidequests are fetchquests but you shoudl already have most if not all of the required items in your inventory if you are fighting enemies and they reward you with very rare materials for upgrading your weapons and great stories that tie in the the game's themes excellently.

Just a heads up that there is a point at which the main quest will cut off all sidequests but almost all of them are avaiable to complete in the second route if you did not do them the first time around so it's not really a big deal.
>>
>>384459058
I'd say that on high-levels 9S lags behind B-mode A2, but he's way stronger and safer to use than 2B and A2's advantage only shows on special rank arena.
Overall when you understand how 9S needs to be played you will have a hard time going back to 2B, controlling her at the beginning of route C felt incredibly unsafe.

Waifufaggots.
>>
>>384462274

But that was the whole point of them starting in the first place. Assuming they were the only point of contact between earth and the moon them being gone would create uncertainty about humanity on the moon and cause the androids to question if they're still alive. Prerecorded messages only get you so far without another person to step in and improvise things in between.
>>
This game is a massive buyers remorse for me, thought the cbat system was at least as good as MGR, boy was I wrong
>>
>>384462483
They needed to destroy everything to do with project Yorha so that no information regarding the actual purpose of the project would exist, most of the androids seemed very willing to believe humans were alive and well on the moon after all these thousands of years when the project started so they probably wouldn't begin to question if humans were still alive any time soon.
>>
>>384459872
Never have i played a game with more fucked up difficulty balance than this one

Normal and lower the game plays itself

Hard+ and it's straight up unfair which is why you're supposed to get chips and then switch difficulty afterwards
>>
>>384462521
What a loaded expectation

How many games even do the same combat quality or otherwise that MGR does?

I think literally only MGR
>>
>>384463041
That just raises the question of why they even kept that info on the damn server in the first place. Just have the commander be the only one that knows about it and remove everything else.
>>
>>384463239
MGR combat is shit compared to Nier. it's overrated as shit
>>
>>384463239
Bayo's even better but I didnt expect it to be THAT good, the demo gave me a good first impression and I thought there would be a bit more depth in the main game. And obviously I didnt expect anything like the blade mode
>>
>>384463239
You must not have played many Platinum games.
>>
>>384463264
Even she isn't allowed access to some information like the Yorha disposal plan, I imagine that information was there for ther sake of the pods.
>>
For me its just a few main issues, the way the same enemies don't react uniformly regardless of my damage output, dodging being uncapped and providing total invulnerability when spammed (except to the projectiles which is another issue entirely since it means being near something shooting is a dice roll basically), the way healing works and how alot of enemies dont have distinctive tells for attacks or those tells can be lost in the chaos of the hitsparks and projectiles from your AI ally

the first naked guy fight is a great example of the issues with all of these things, i did it on hard mode just by swinging at him twice and dodge spamming around with 9S turned off so I could see clearly
>>
>>384462521
All these people who only bought the game because of Platinum and didn't know what they were getting into
>>
Now that i think about it dont see the point in designating 2b to kill 9s all the time when the memory backups are a thing and even if they didnt exist you're just throwing yourself into an infinite loop since he's capable of hacking the data anyway even if they got reset back to 1.0. Seems like creating him in the first place just caused more problems if anything.
>>
>>384463854
The first nier was terrible to play so of course people had high hopes for platinum to massively improve the combat system
>>
>>384464458
I mean its not THAT bad its just that it could be way better with just a few small changes, thats why its disappointing

It reminds me of Dragons Dogma a lot
>>
>>384464312
9S is like a nuclear warhead. It can cause a huge damage to allies if not used right but it's devastating against enemies.
Reminder that he's the only reason androids could win in vast majority of events happening at route A.
>>
>>384464312
He's a very useful part of the war effort, useful enough to be worth this constant resetting. Besides, it's not an infinite loop, Yorha was designed to be terminated.
>>
>>384464598
>>384464692
That kinda loses its impact when you find out they were never really in any danger of losing the war.
>>
>>384464846
They didn't knew it.
And besides, 9S made it all the way past toughest enemy machines up to the very top of a Tower so he ended up being an actual threat, just like A2. He just decided to re-think his own life at last moment.
>>
>>384464952
I'm pretty sure Yorha knew
>>
>>384465179
"YoRHa" is just a plan to bolster android morale. Both Zinnia and Number 9 were absolutely clueless about the true nature of machine network and its goals.
>>
>>384464952
>so he ended up being an actual threat
I dunno, N2 was clearly messing with him the whole time, if she really wanted to I think she could have dealt with him much earlier.

>>384457789

>>
>>384465345
It was clearly messing up with him in resource units but It actually tried its hardest to stop him from entering the Tower and threw an extremely powerful enemies at him afterwards. If you don't hack Tower door you will get a joke ending where army of machines slaughters both him and Devola/Popola. Not to mention that hacking Tower door was lethal for any android.

And Ko/Ro-Shi are the single strongest machine lifeforms in the game so i assume that they actually were the Tower's last line of defence.
>>
>>384458506

>hasn't actually done ending B
>IT'S THE EXACT SAME SHIT AS A THOUGH

This is almost as funny as it is depressing. These are the kinds of fucking faggots /v/ attracts these days.
>>
I was waiting for someone to call 9S and 2B out whenever they say machines can't have emotions etc when they themselves would get very emotinoal but they never do.
>>
>>384465610
They still messed with him in the tower with the 'special prize' they prepared for him, but you have a point, I have no idea how they expected him to get past the door.
>>
Don't even bother, the game tries so hard being emotional (which it fails at miserably) that it forgot to have good gameplay, just like all taro games.
>>
>>384465848
That "special prize" was the most cruel thing in the world. Since he was clearly capable of fending off forces inside the Tower, they employed an extremely cruel psychological warfare to derail him as hard as they could.

Of course, A2 helped too by throwing N2 into disarray and creating an internal conflict. But by the time both 9S and A2 are ascending the Tower, it was a clear final stand against the network with both sides fighting to win.

While this shit thread is still here, one thing I never understood originally there was a human space colony on the moon, which you know is bullshit if you played NieR because humanity was already effectively extinct by the start of it. Then 9S says the server is a load of old bullshit. So what or who made the YorHa soldiers? For what reason? Humanity isn't coming back and sooner or later the Androids on the earth will run out of parts and stop functioning. So what was the point of it all?

That said, it does open up a lot of variety if you control hacked machines. For example you can get the flying worm machines from the underground cult area out into the game world if you hack them. Plenty of other cool machines to play with.

But yeah, the weapon based combat is a bit shit compared to the first half, at least it gave me a chance to get used to some other weapons.
>>
>>384468848
>And by tricks you mean hacking
And by trick i mean learning how to use his heavy attack and understand how strong his charge attacks are. It's faster than hacking and combined with certain weapons like demon's cry he wipes entire encounter in a single attack.
Good job showing that you don't know shit about the game.

Because it's often quicker to fight enemies normally. No shit you find hacking tedious if you're doing it to everything.

Forgot about that but you unlock chapter select after C anyways.

If OP hates 9S so much, blast through the Route and then come back after you've finished C/D/E and fallen in love with the game.

>Inb4 >coming back after E

It's called making a backup
>>
>>384469061
Bracer charged attack is even more bullshit against single target.
I honestly don't know if girls can pump the same DPS outside of B-mode.
>>
>>384468965
Everyone knows how to use his heavy attack, the fuck do you mean with "trick"
>>
>>384468768
>I always enjoy looking at waifufaggots who got blown the fuck out by this game.
If I was a waifufag I would be praising the shit out of this game.
Also I played on hard no problem, suck my dick. Pretentious melodrama only made me laugh. Nothing about this mediocre game could possibly "blow me the fuck out".
>>
>>384469061
One shotting isn't particularly fun. 9S isn't difficult to play, it's just that with only two attack types his combat is less engaging. Hacking and using hacked bots is the only way to make it interesting relative to 2B's combat.

Even so, hacking breaks the pace of combat too much. It's all just a bit clumsy.
>>
>>384469215
No, it's called being selfish. Which I am.
>>
>>384469390
>Not giving back help after having your ass saved

It's almost as if you don't want the entire world to band together against nihilism through the power of video-games.
>>
>>384469240
By trick i mean continuous combos without continuous combo chip, dodge cancels that work extremely well with his heavy strings and SD cancels that can be used on top of that to trigger special ability of type-3 weapons without even actually performing a combo string.
Learn the shit you're trying to bark about then come back you fucking clown.
>>
>OP trying this hard to not finish a game
Retard.
The 9S segments start off kinda lame, but you can blitz through his part and the story still throws se curve balls at you.
The hacking game here on me as it went on, too.
Also, if you hold square you do a heavy attack, you'll need that.
>>
>>384469346
>with only two attack types
?
The only thing he lacks relatively to girls is light-heavy transition attack.
>>
>>384458140
I hate this meme, while his storyline was interesting to follow but gameplay-wise he was boring to play. Hacking your way through enemies is not fun and weapon switching makes combat even slower than before.
>>
>>384457789
Not the second, but the third through fifth, so you should skip right ahead.
>>
>>384457789
9S is the real protagonist. You just played the prologue.
>>
>>384469464
I don't think the game's an argument against nihilism per se. I see it more as a rejection of existentialism, and the isolation that comes with it. Regardless of your disposition. Naturally that includes nihilistic existentialism, i.e., solipsism, but also absurdism and the other derivative concepts.

There's a clear line of reasoning from Hegel's commentary on though via grammar, through to Satre's personalising of rationalism; after all it is through the inherent knowledge of God that Descartes nixes the proto existentialism he comes up with, candle and all. At the same time we're reminded that the commonality of man, or the kinship, is not a unity a la the post-marxist schools of thought.

>>384469876
I may be mis-remembering but didn't he couldn't do all of the light combos could he? Or was it just that he couldn't do combos with both light and heavy attacks? Whichever it was I remember being able to do fewer cool combos. No doubt he's far more powerful than the other two though. Fist weapons were disgusting on 9S.
>>
>>384459729
the only people who hate playing 9S are uncreative fucks who enjoy mashing one button to get flashy combos instead of putting effort into their smoking sicks style.
>>
In the beginning of route C, you can decide only to hack 4 instead of 5 targets, it seems. Does it get harder if you only hack 4 of them? Or do you only get the extra items when hacking the fifth one?
>>
>>384465872
>just like all taro games.
Neither Drakengard 1 or 3 tried to be emotional. Not even 2, for that matter.
>>
>>384470436
I found 3 to be pretty depressing at times
>>
>>384470297
I say Nihilism because of the questions the game throws at you during the Ending E (Trying to force you to admit it's all meaningless, which you reject).

But you could be right, I'm barely a beginner regarding philosophy.
>>
>>384469151

>>
>>384470669
I'm no savant, so don't take my comment as anything more than musings.

I did think that the game was philosophically inconsistent though, being a pastiche of comments, some coherently linked, and others just there as they were.

Ehh, I feel like the central theme ("Life is not meaningless, even when it actually is") was well done.

It's cool that the game allows for so many interpretations though, like SuperBunnyhop's marxist interpretation. It's rare for games to have this much depth.

>>384471050

>>
>>384471169
I haven't read much of the discussion about the game, but maybe I'll have a look at it. I think that there were two well defined and contiguous themes running through the game. One was on the reduction of man to his existentialist self, an end-game of sorts to the cult of the individual, and the other a commentary on the structure and destructive failure of marxist ideologies and socialisms.

What does Angel's Mercy and Devil's Hatred do? When you upgrade the angel and devil bracers this is one of their specials, but I don't know what it does
>>
>>384475003
Angel's Mercy gives you HP for each defeated enemy, Devil's Hatred generates a shockwave when enemies are killed.

Consequently shockwave+crit+chain+Devil's Hatred is a quick oneshot to everything.

With Demon's Cry and 9S you literally need to hold the attack button and he will clear entire encounters with no other offensive chips equipped and while being at range.

I think you're very wrong, considering much of the game makes use of existentialist concepts and basically revolves around a metaphor for meaningless existences given meaning through action.

Most people that complain about Automata are complaining because they play it expecting a Platinum game and instead they get a Taro Yoko game made by Platinum in order to be made competently. Since you don't have to worry about those preconcieved notions, just know that the gameplay is good/decent, music is spectacular, story is the main focus and that you should also play Nier 1. Also multiple endings.
