I never understood why people think speedrunners are good at games.
I mean sure watching people pull off crazy precise shit in platformers is really cool, but it seems like in most games, most 3D games at least, speedrunning is less about actually being good at the game and more about trying to avoid playing the game altogether.

Depends on the game, tricks may have varying difficulties to pull off. 3D games can offer more room to take shortcuts or avoid engagements, but at the end of the day you can't really fault them for taking the most efficient path possible if the intent is to speedrun. But in regards to them being inherently good at vidya in general or not? That's a valid point if they constantly repeat runs of the same game.
