>Put it off till now
>Finally get around to playing it
>Tfw it's actually good

I was coming in kind of salty because I thought the original Preys use of Indian mythology was novel and this game had -10000% to do with the original. Plus I was already spoiled on the plot twist. But it's actually a fairly competent game, a much better version of BioShock (let alone the aweful sequels). It has problems - it's not very challenging early on even on hard, and even though Talos is 'open' it kind of races you through things. Also the Nightmare mechanic is half baked and at least once I spawned in a new zone and it materialized right on top of me. Certain powers like Pyschoshock are obligatory, and the 'twist' is telegraphed early on. Like most of these games it kind of loses steam at the end especially as you become more and more OP.

Also it has a bunch of SJW stuff in it so if you trigger easily don't play it. Aside from that surprisingly good (just turn the music down to 50%)
>>
>just turn the music down
Not a good sign OP
>>
>>384450731
>t turn the music down TO 50%
Just because the music is a bit too loud doesn't mean it's bad
>>
>>384450731
Idk what the fuck they're thinking with he sound design but sometimes it just pops off for no reason. Also whenever you see a mimic the WUBWUB goes off. The music is entirely TOO LOUD

>>384450887
Admittedly it's not very good either besides one or two stingers
>>
>>384450565
Sometimes shills aren't shills, there are very few really good games these days and we just don't like to see them flop because some people that didn't even play it are shitting on it.

That said I found the end was weak, not because I was OP but I hated having to run back everywhere and going through all the loading screens and new enemies to do little tasks with a nightmare knowing where I was and rushing towards me as soon as I entered an area even if it was waiting at the other side of the map.
>>
Once you've experienced the introduction and visited Talos 1's Lobby and seen its exterior you're essentially done as the game offers nothing else which is at all interesting.
>>
>Thinking of getting a new mouse
>EB bundles Prey on sale with said mouse for cheaper than the mouse is by itself

My question is: I have a 660 Ti and i7 3770. How shit is it going to run?
>>
>>384450565
Didn't notice much of SJW stuff, only that lesbian """romance""" that was stuffed in your face.
>>
>>384452085
Are you sure you got the right prey?
>>
>>384452129
Mostly just the lesbian romance, and Morgan's lesbian romance if you play a grill.
>>

That's pretty false, you ain't even got psionics or a pyschoscope yet by that point
>>

Yes.

Its a good game but the lack of enemy variety is a serious drag on it.

I enjoyed it a lot. Kinda like a watered down System Shock 2 with some twists to it. The shotgun was very satisfying even if a bit OP towards the end.

What were the clues that you were exploring the memories of a deceased Morgan? I didn't get that at all

There were hints that you were a typhon, but there were no clues that it was all a simulation.

It's okay. Not my favorite though. I rented it and had it for about a week, got 100% of the cheevos from just fucking around and exploring, which felt good. All said though, the game really isn't that memorable. I already hardly remember anything about the story, and the lack of fun powers on the alien tree was kind of a downer.

It means a fucking lot man, Bethesda are awful as a developer but they publish some good games.

>the plot twist

I remember thinking that it could be all a simulation near the beginning but as the plot got more in-depth and you met more people I thought that couldn't possibly be it, because it would make everything else happening absolutely pointless and retroactively ruin my experience.

Seriously, why did they do it? One of the first things I learnt about creative writing when I was fucking 12 was that IT WAS ALL A DREAM is shit and to never rely on it. What were they thinking?

I don't know why people sperg out so hard about the lesbian romance. It seemed pretty normal to me.

Well I more meant the "you are a Typhon" twist, that's pretty much given away. They hold the simulation thing in reserve.
>>
>>384453901
I happen to know a couple of Arkane devs and they're still a moderate sized studio with very dedicated people. Bethesda still has the last word on deadlines and marketing and lots of stuff but the devs still make the game they want to make.
>>
>>384453982
Are you a retard?
Bethesda the publisher handles certain aspects of selling and marketing the game as well as some development costs for Arkane.
This is how Bethesda is able to self publish games whereas other developers cannot.
Publishing has zero to do with actually building a game.
>>
>>384454137
>They both want the game to sell
Everything you said is irrelevant.
>>
>>384453969
>>384454061
One thing that is actually pretty brilliant about the ending and redeems the twist IMO is how it's a classic sci-fi story about communication. You aren't a doomguy trying to stop an alien invasion alone, you aren't assembling a superweapon or creating a virus to shut down mothership's shields, you are humanity's desperate attempt to communicate with completely alien species. How do you talk to something so different from us?
>>
>>384454110

You should tell them to add some god damn weapon variety next time. Genuinely disappointing lack of weaponry in this game. The gloo gun is basically the only thing that stands out as unique too.
>>
>>384454215
The limited number of weapons in the game was indeed a minor flow but it does somewhate fits the story, as in Talos I is a research facility, and shouldn't need more than handguns and shotguns to maintain itself.
But yeah, I could have used another experimental crazy weapon or two.

Fantastic AAA game compared to the shit we usually get.
> it's not very challenging early on even on hard
Not really, first parts are supposed to spook you not challenge you, only gripe I've with it is how slow things start, but it's good to build anticipation and suspense.
>Certain powers like Pyschoshock are obligatory
Nah.
> Like most of these games it kind of loses steam at the end especially as you become more and more OP.
Agreed, my enjoyment severely dropped once you start encountering humans and turns out you're not really as alone as you thought,

Still a great game.

I mean yeah I get that it makes sense from a lore standpoint but it just ends up being boring. They could have had some funky prototype blueprints or something and it would still make sense.

This, to a lesser extent. It felt really great to meet living NPCs in this fucked up environment, and it felt even greater to be able to actually save some of them but the Cargo Bay had a bit too many of them.

>>
Odds on a sequel? I heard it reviewed well but sold poorly
>>
>>384454587
Fuck that dot, only time I got spooked.
>>
>>384454192

I don't think that redeems the ending at all, and I kind of hate how when a game has a disappointing story people will latch on to some wider concept the game is trying to convey as if it makes up for it. Particularly annoying is people who say MGSV was somehow genius because it made us feel a "phantom pain" by being a padded out, story lite load of rubbish that failed to satisfy what the pre-release info hinted at.

It's irrelevant that the game has interesting ideas because every human moment you have, whether that be getting spooked by Typhons or choosing, or failing to save everyone on that station is made utterly irrelevant by the fact it's a simulation and not actually happening. Replaying it after that takes all weight out of what you're doing. The game and the Typon twist still works if that scene at the end is a flashback from before the start of the game. By being on future-fucked-Earth it ruins it all. Fuck the twist and whoever thought it was smart.

It didn't sell well, the two big reviewer outlets (IGN and Gamespot) gave it a 4 and a 6 respectively, and the founder of Arkane (who was the director for this game) recently stepped down and left the company

You figure it out
>>
>>384456337
Ign gave it an 8/10
Gamespot did give it a 6 though. These reviews are all over, the hell? 80s and in some places 90s, then you get 3/5 in some places and a 6 from gamespoot. What happened?

Is it- oh. Oohhhhh

...they reviewed the console version didn't they. Pftahahahahahahah
