unless you're some massive audiophile who obsesses over muh mids and muh frequencies, any headset should do. i'm still using a pair of hyperx meme's i bought 3 years ago on black friday for around 50 pounds (like $60 or something) and the big cans on it provide clear and crisp sound quality for gaming. the mic is top notch too, though i know of people who have received models with a shit mic.
>>
If you're only going USB quality pretty much maxxes out in the range that the snowball sits in, the usb yeti is retarded as fuck. You shouldn't be spending any more than like $40 for a usb table mic. That said, my snowball hasn't given me any issues.

even then you can just download any noisegate program off the internet and set the dB levels so it only activates when you speak. you can already do that in discord but it's easy to do it through other software too if you use other voice chat programs.
>>
>>384438625
If anything, buying a cheap microphone is probably the best option if your house is loud, because these things don't pick up anything unless they're 2 inches away from your mouth.

I get what these videos are saying about how the blue yeti isn't much better than a blue snowball so if you're paying full price, the yeti isn't as worth it but the thing is, the yeti goes on sale so fucking often that the extra features are worth it over a snowball. Not to mention, the yeti construction quality is decidedly better than the snowball. I've had 2 snowballs break on me within a few months while my yeti is still kicking after 2 years. Took the snowballs apart to see if I could fix them and the construction is pretty fucking cheap.

As far as the rest of the video, no fucking shit, a $100 standalone mic is going to sound worse than a $500+ full audio setup. The thing is, most folks just starting out can't just drop that kinda cash on something that might not pan out. For musicians, yeah, that's a different story because the actual recorded sound is much more important, but for folks trying to do podcasts and such, the quality of your actual content is what's most important to starting off and growing a listener base. As long as you sound ok, nobody will care if your content is good. Better sound quality doesn't mean shit if your content is shit to begin with so there's no reason to start straight off with a $500+ full setup like these videos recommend.

Easy. Record yourself talking, and then listen back to it. Also do a loud test as well, to make sure you don't sound horrible if you yell.

This. I bought a yeti because I had enough money budgeted that I didn't spend and now my mic quality is limited by the voip codec instead of my hardware.

Why two different microphones?

Also what is the best microphone for talking in games? Condenser? I know nothing about microphones but my current mic seems to not pick up audio well(?) and so my voice gets muffled if i'm too close and you can barely hear me at all when I move it away even the slightest.

My MXL is for my communication in games and used for streaming. The 2020 is in my vocal booth for when I do voice work.

Honestly if you're JUST using a mic for game communication, just get a USB mic. Condenser is for more serious applications and work, in addition you need an audio interface, or some device that will power that microphones and then get fed through your computer

Okay. So I'm gonna go blog mode for a second and just say that a big part of that is because I used to be raided and hosted a lot by DizzeyKitten and be a part of other big streamers streams including hers. So a lot of those people stayed and it was history from there. I lost touch with those people because I didn't wanna be "that voice guy who's on other peoples streams" so I branched out to my own channel

Also, just so you don't think I'm full of shit, here's a sample of some of my recent professional voice work https://a.pomf.cat/hizwjn.mp4 (it's lower quality because I was given a sample and a full copy but the full one is a huge file size so I can only upload the sample)

Open backed headphones are better for a surround sound effect, although the ones you posted would be fine. Open backed let some air into the headphones which makes for a more natural sound and adds some depth, the also leak more sound meaning other people can hear them even when you're wearing them. I personally like closed back headphones because I like to not have other sounds allowed in.

Well, since you're already going to school for broadcasting, I'd say you're on a good track. In terms of putting yourself out there? Reddit and the associating subreddits for voice work it'll get you pocket change and give you exposure and work to put on your portfolio. Do your research on your audio equipment, each microphone and every voice is different. So find the equipment best suited for you.

You have to remember, VA is a very competitive scene. Never be bummed out you didn't get something. You'll at least get some stuff and have it be put on a portfolio. Patience and time with everything and you'll be on your way. I myself have been doing it for 5 years and I keep growing
