Unity is valued at $1.5 B. Why don't other companies release their internal game engine to rival and take the game engine business away from Unity?
because in-house company engines aren't made to be drag and drop newbie friendly bloated pieces of shit
Because other game engines don't have a store where you can drag and drop assets and code from.

Because its not their business plan?

Where have you been? Unreal has been doing that for forever. Amazon is trying to push Lumberyard, but will probably fail. Gamebryo is shit, but it's also been licensed out for multiple games over the past decade or two. Gamemaker and Torque inhabit a niche/indie space.
There are honestly too many engines out there. It's probably not worth the trouble to Square Enix or CDProject to make documentation for Crystal Tools and Red Engine and make it user friendly enough to strangers.
Because an engine designed to be used internally is not even remotely the same thing as an engine designed to be used by consumers.
