All the paywalls, QTE's, and photorealistic ideals out there can't make computer entertainment wholesome and human. The indie scene these days is full of fake ass fuckboys who think they're the next big thing, but really they're limited by what vidya has become. What you want is the Early Access crowds. People that play Day Z, Arc, PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds.

Basically games that you lable Early Access and never release. You keep a userbase for a year or two and then dump it all on your next game.

Even worse was pushing the devs to release the half billion pile of ass buggy and unfinished. I was one of the first 25 people to level cap in Conan, and there were no quests for the later 70% of the game, zones were missing NPCs and still had placeholder models.

Ironically once you actually GOT to level cap the content was there, but nobody could get there so you had nobody to group with, nobody to trade with, when all the content was designed for groups.

Conan actually had potential to be a VERY good game honestly, but it was DoA because higher-ups wanted it released to compete with other titles.

Nah dude that's 2004. Halo 2 and WoW were released about 2 weeks apart, and together managed to bring gaming to the mainstream in ways that were never seen before. Halo 2 pretty much singlehandedly proved online gaming on consoles was possible, creating a massive and lucrative new audience, and the absurd popularity of WoW (a game itself meant to be a much more casual version of other MMOs) showed developers that gamers wanted easier games. People blame 2007 for casualizing everything, but the seeds were planted years before.
