Because it's been a meme until XxX_PlAyErUnKnOwN_XxX's Battlegrounds. All of the attempts were dogshit.
Not that PUBG is any better, but people are finally circlejerking about it. So expect some Battle Royale games in the future from big companies. They'll probably be better than Battlegrounds, honestly. The game's dogshit and would be improved immensely with devs who know how to make movement and shooting feel satisfying instead of bland as fuck.

The amount of problems this game have and goes away with it waving the flag of Early Access is off the charts. Still, people who are eagerly for a game like this jumps in any boat they see. By now this game is a mess and miss a lot of things, but since the base gameplay is there, people are playing it.

Tom Clancy The Division have a survival mode wich is amazing, works the same way, but have way better gameplay and multiple goals instead of just loot, hide and wait for another player come by to get killed.

Cant make it with the good graphix if theres going to be 120 people running around at the same time.
