Not exactly. Tries hard to capture the CT feel but tries too hard and flops. Played it for few days, got kinda halfway through game , stopped for some reason, never picked up again. One of the reasons might be what they obviously intended to be selling point of the game - characters. But instead of fleshed out party like in the first game devs crammed 50 + of them here, including talking dogs, sirens and paralel world wersions of them.

I never understood why people call CT 'the best' RPG.
It's definitely above-average, yes, but it all felt kinda bland to me. The combat's not particularly nuanced or complex, the writing, while pretty solid, isn't terribly memorable, and in the end aside from the time-travel setting (which it didn't really do enough with, honestly) it feels like a generic JRPG with particularly good production values.

Terranigma's a completely different style of game, really. It's more of an action RPG where the RPG elements aren't too important.
It's one of the best stories ever told in gaming despite the shoddy translation, though, and is definitely worth checking out.

The pacing is godly, which is more than you can say for a lot of JRPGs. You're never in a place where you're like "god, I wish this part was just fucking over with already". You're visiting time periods and solving a small problem, then coming back to them later to solve a huge problem. So even in the linear phase of the RPG (which is typically pre-airship, etc. for most RPGs, Epoch in this case) it doesn't feel as linear because you're visiting areas you've been to before and expanding them.
Look at FF6 or FF7, both of which are masterpieces, but you're just hopping from town to town as you go until you get the airship and then maybe you need to revisit others.

As a kid who could barely understand english, I finished the game without ever knowing that you can revive Crono.

I would say if you don't remember any of the story, restart. However, if you feel like you're invested enough press onward. Most of the side quests are optional but present opportunities to power up your characters.

Looks like you've got Crono back so at this point, Lavos is the main objective. There are several ways to access the fight. You can go now if you want. The sidequests will wrap up some side stories and give you a lot of power-ups if you feel you aren't strong enough. Party members not in the party gain about 70% exp. but no tech points, if they still need to learn techs.

Fucking THIS. Chrono Trigger feels like the only JRPG to get this right. It's only 30 hours too, so it doesn't waste a goddamn second of your time.

I don't see why this boring garbage is getting the praise it does, I barely finished it. The fighting is glorified FF2-era ATB that pretends to be deeper by fooling you into believing that where you stand has any impact - it doesn't. Also what's with that retarded copying of the current screen to use as battle background when it completely ignores the hitboxes of the surroundings?

Due to the fixed encounters, fighting is also utter shit and a massive chore, especially since running away takes longer than beating the enemies. Enemies are utterly non-challenging so just mashing attack as soon as you can gets fights done sooner than waiting for the stupid special attacks to be over.

The hyped TEN ENDINGS are just garbage early exit points in the story. Don't get me started on the retarded story that establishes and breaks rules as it sees fit and wastes your time with pointless garbage quests, or the horrible one-dimensional cast.

That said, I agree that CTs length is fucking perfect. Lord knows how many games I've dropped because they just go on too long - I've yet to drop a game for being too short.

Overrated Toriyama/Square shit

One of my favorite games of all times, almost a perfect game.

For me what is probably the biggest thing CT has going for it is how well-balanced it is. Other RPGs may do some individual things better, but they also come with certain things I don't care for. CT just gets everything right.

My only real complaint is that it's a bit short for an RPG. But then that's probably why the pacing is so good.

Played through it a few times when I was a kid because my older brother was lucky enough to get it on the SNES. Back then I would always have Magus join, and I thought he was cool. After replaying again recently, I really couldn't find myself sympathizing with Magus. I mean sure he got thrown into a shitty circumstance as a child and tried the the best he could for revenge. But even after Chrono dies and he gets chumped himself by Lavos, he still talks trash tries to start shit. I was glad to kill him this time, and I enjoyed watching Frog become human again. Maybe he can go back to his time have an affair with the queen or some cutie.

Regarding Cross, the biggest thing they fucked up was transitioning to different battle screens instead of having the fights on the actual map. Doesn't help the battle music is cancer, too.

There are three games in the series, Trigger, Cross for the PSX, and the lesser known Radical Dreamers, a visual novel for the Satellaview add-on for the Super Famicom. I was trying to say I like the difficulty of Brave New World. It isn't overly difficult but it still balances out things that were too powerful and things that were useless while making you think for quite a few different bosses and even some field enemies. Its definitely more difficult than the vanilla FFVI, but it isn't overly frustrating and tedious.

Don't get me wrong, DQ isn't a hardcore series or anything, but VIII is very simple in terms of progression. You have four characters and they have very obvious roles in battle. In III you make your own party from eight classes, it is pretty fun. It encourages replaying it, helps it gives some freedom.

That's what helps Chrono Trigger be the best SNES RPG. The overall narrative and characters are far tighter and well-tuned than FFVI which had too many characters and a lot of grinding, whereas EarthBound also had a narrative that introduced a lot of random stuff that felt extremely disjointed, as if there were parts here and there that were cut in development.

Anyone can say that EarthBound shifts settings a lot, but I found it off-putting how the local crime boss takes such an interest in you and a kidnapped little girl (Everdred, not Frank), how Pokey suddenly goes from douchebag who gets punished to significant antagonist before the middle of the first act, and the importance of the Mani-Mani Statue, even if you never saw it in the first place.
