Pc player base for tekken is in fantastic shape. I looked up player stats yesterday and the 24 hour peak for the day before/yesterday was over 5k. Regardless of whether or not that single number is higher than ps4's 24hr peak is irrelevant, it's more than enough players.

I'd say crossplay would be the best solution for every fighter and the community's growth, but greedy and scared corporations like Sony and their brainwashed fanbase love having a tiny centric hugbox all to themselves. If you like fighting game variety, go with Steam. You get access to not just every modern fighter except Injustice 2, but alot of niche Japanese ones that never got console ports. If you're at all into niche games like Melty Blood or Arcana Hearts or stuff like that that occupy portions of actual Japanese arcades and are into that culture at all, check out what PC has to offer, it's just it may be hard to find them all on Steam. Also the community for some games like Skull Girls lives on PC right now.

If you're the kind of guy who just wants to play 1 or 2 popular current fighting games and focus on them, you will be fine with either PC or PS4. You'll have access to SFV, Tekken, KOF and just about everything else PS4 does, but you'll also have access to Killer Instinct if you're into that. Injustice 2 isn't on PC currently though, so you'd need PS4 for that.

Steam isn't a subscription service though, they just have a leeching business practice and they were the first to do digital. If Sony or MS saw trends sooner and didn't have the hubris big corporations have, they would have done it first, and likely regret deeply not having done so, and if it had been then, we probably wouldn't have as much freedom as we do under the Steam client.

People take for granted that we have pretty hands-off communities on Steam. People post loli or furry porn on their profile images and don't get moderated for months, and we can make any group we want. Workshop is full of content that some would consider straight up piracy ( check Tabletop Simulator) and now we pretty much have softcore porn games. I'm way more in favor of the freedom we have, even if I have no love for Valve being the leeches they are.

I mean if Tekken 7 only sold 21,000 copies on PS4 it would be a pretty famous failure regardless of how much it sold elsewhere and you'd see shit posting about it all the time. Plus it only has 68,000 for SFV and we do know it sold at least 1 million copies and was only released on PS4 and PC. I doubt that over 900,000 copies of it were sold on PC.

if you want to play SFV then you can pick and choose your favorite platform. it has crossplay, so you play with people on PS4 and with people on PC no matter what system you are on.
getting it on PC has the benefit of customisation - you can tweak the config file and adjust settings manually to fit your personal preferences, and you can also mod the game. can't do that on PS4.

if you want to play any other game, get the PS4. none of them have crossplay, and most of them are dead as fuck on PC, so getting them on PC is pointless.
