I really hate what they've done to Mage since Cataclysm though. I remember being hyped for the expansion then it launches and they made my favourite class into an ice Lance/frost bomb machine instead of a cc/control class with limited burst through shatters

Ice barrier was made pathetic with removal of dispel protection and that debuff we could stack up to five times to prevent instant dispels. I remember it absorbing 11k in wotlk on 30k hp pool, then the same or less on 100k hp pools. Fire and ice barrier removed for arcane barrier, no more clutch reflecting lava bursts or dk ice shit. Talent tree gone from 60 to 30 points and forcing you into one spec, no more hybrid specs.

Cataclysm's story was awful, the revamped lowbie zones were hit-or-miss, but goddamn were their class toolkits and play styles on point. They added the niftier newer-age mechanics like Hunters using focus over mana (let's be real the only interesting thing about Hunters with mana pools was the extremely small window of Arcane Shot-based spellpower builds back in the AQ days of Vanilla) and shooting while moving, Rogues getting Recuperate, Warriors getting that Barbarian leap (though the pathing for it fucking blew initially I'll concede that), and the key point was that none of it was casualized to shit yet (besides maybe the talent trees but at this point everyone was cookie-cuttering anyhow).

MoP really jump-started that process, cutting out dedicated range slots and deadzone, putting far more emphasis on being a hybrid that can do everything (something that's truly fucked up beyond repair in current-day WoW, you might as well make every class a hybrid now because pure DPS gets shit on in terms of utility and satisfying play unless you're a Mage). It was okayish, but clearly the midpoint in a transition into something far worse.

For years Blizzard had trouble keeping up with content because their teams were shuffling around. That's why flying was removed, legendaries and mounts became temporary, etc. All ways to keep people playing despite the lack of content. The Diablo thing is just them taking that to 1000%, even though they finally fixed their content stream.

All I fucking want to do is level alts but it's so fucking boring to do in Legion. There's no exp boosts and the only World Quests I can do are the Legion Invasions which are way more fun than the story quests because they're fast and reward a shit-ton of exp.
