I have to say, I think Kazumi from T7 is such a pleasant character as far as "strong" female characters go. She is feminine, but she strikes with such force and focus and has this "boss" aura around her that makes so cool.

Character designs and character writting are entirely different parts of a project and can be as dissonant as night and day.
Most of NIS games are entirely garbage tier pedo bait, yet still manage to have pretty interesting writting in some of them.

Ultimately doesn't change that the basic idea on how they are selling their character or getting people interested, however, is by making an underaged girl run around in bathing suits, which is what I am tackling (in a more focused spectrum.)

t b h when it comes to character designs I actually do think that designs which show a lot of skin are pretty silly, especially when the game world never seems to notice it in any way. The only games that seem to notice that the female characters are in really skimpy clothes seem to be porn games with exhibitionist stuff. In normal games a woman can be wearing barely any clothes but no one ever comments on this in any way and it never affects anyone's opinions on the character. Not that I really mind this but I do admit that it's pretty cheap. It feels like no one sees what the characters are wearing or just ignore the bizarre and extravagant outfits for some reason.

I absolutely despise both damsels in distress and males in drag that feminist media tries to portray as independent strong females.
By far my favourite female archetype in games is extremely strong-willed girls that can make shit done while staying vulnerable, flawed and feminine. Characters like Estelle, Kaine, 2B or Edea are always a major highlight for me, especially if game has an equally interesting male lead like Ringabel or 9S.

But the thing is that this not usually the case, the ordinary folks usually wear fairly ordinary clothes. One could say that the heroes aren't ordinary folks but this isn't usually the case, often they come from very meager and basic backgrounds. It's very rarely explained why the characters use the clothes they do even if no one around them wears similar stuff.

Now I understand that the real reason behind this is the fact that the heroes need to pop up from the basic people to the viewer and that the designs should tell something from the character but they're often just in conflict with the rest of the world. Like I said this is not a huge issue but it's a very common thing which I can't really consider positive. I just like it when the world is consistent.

The only thing that is really disappointing is that everyone thinks a strong female character is just a man without a dick. Especially in western games you get girls who don't need no man because they're just as rude, crude, rough and tumble, and horny as any man out there. There really aren't any strong characters out there who are women doing womanly things. And there are a few dad games out there that kind of explore fatherhood but nothing about motherhood.
