Yeah thats one of the strange games that somehow got massive normalfag attention (my guess is streams) even though it really isnt friendly to them.
Nothing they do will make up for the fact they released a $40 expansion during early access.

my only tangential guess for increasing the price that much would be making an artificial excuse to tell people "well, we kinda stopping the support for the game, since nobody buys it anymore", right after it leaving early access stage.
