What are some fighting games to play competitively for someone new to fighting games?
>>
none

fighting games are a shit genre and you'll never be able to compete against autists who have been playing for 25 years
>>
>>384352974

Whichever one you're willing to invest lots of time in. What fighter do you like?
>>
>>384352974
You can't play competitively if you're new.
Make yourself not new. Whichever game.
>>
Dive Kick
>>
>>384352974
SFV not even kidding. It's so slow and easy
>>
>>384353034

Honestly, this is kind of true.

It's kind of demoralizing to know you have to put in 100's of hours just to get decent at any fighting game.
>>
>>384352974
SFV is the best entry point right now.
Buy it when its on sale. Its on sale often.

Like now you get a 50% off coupon if you buy the humble bundle. Many are most likely willing to give theirs away.
>>
>>384353034

Too big of an experience gap?
>>
>>384352974
Go learn a real-life skill instead.
>>
>>384353334

What's the best real-life skill to learn?
>>
>>384353314
absolutely too big of an experience gap

you're going to hit a wall immediately and the only way to get over that wall is to practice and grind for 100 hours. who wants to fucking study for a video game? go learn a language or play the piano or some shit, something actually enriching and not pathetic.

fighting games are fun if you're playing casually with friends but if you want something competitive just don't even fucking bother.

>>384353260
hundreds of hours arent that much for a vs game, really.
I probably put a thousand hours into SF2 casually mashing with friends every day after school for an hour or three.
>>
>>384352974

What kind of fighting games do you like: 2D or 3D?
>>
>>384353410
a million times this

>I've been playing SFV since release and I played a bit of SFIV before that
>still can't do any combos so I just play Zangief
>stuck in bronze forever
I'd have given up long ago, but I'm still having fun somehow.
>>
>>384353434
punk started playing fighting games 10 years ago
>>
street fighter 4
>>
>>384353506
an eight year old doesnt make the best progress in a fighting game.
he only started leveling up properly at the end of SF4.

hell many great SF4 and now SFV players are 09ers too.
>>
>>384352974
>>384353307

Play guilty gear Rev 2 it has the best tutorial of any fighting game. It will teach you how to play the right way. All SF5 will teach you is to regret your purchase and downvote capcom videos on youtube.
>>
>>384353410

If you haven't played the game since it came out, you might as well not bother?
>>
>>384353476
have you tried an analysis and practice approach?
this can be really fun.
sounds to me like you're just playing on auto pilot which obviously doesnt lead to improvement.
>>
>>384353668
unironically yes
>>
>>384353660

yeah and have fun playing against the other 12 people online
>>
>>384353373
Knowing a lot of languages are attractive in the job market, you could double up by learning japanese and start reading obscure porn.
>>
>>384353668
Nah. Skills always carry over into other fighters.

You generally shouldnt listen to him, he's clueless.
>>
>>384353720

I said Guilty gear not KoF 14.

Don't learn japanese unless you are the fucking definition of discipline and consistency

You will fail
>>
>>384353720
I'm currently playing with 200 other people in Tokyo and Europe m8 get better connection.
>>
>>384352974
Unironically SF5 if we talk about game difficulty

But the game is so bad you will want to quit the genre shortly after playing it, so its probably a bad idea to recommend it to beginners

I was gonna try mandarin because I'm doing a finance degree but I heard they are assholes to deal with.

>>
>>384353862
With that attitude you will fail.
>>384353949
Someone post the greentext
>>
>>384353687
that's probably a good idea. I did that for a bit when the game came out. I panic under pressure and generally lose to anybody constantly pressing buttons, but do very well against anybody being defensive.

My friend is teaching me the ropes with Blazblue Continuum Shift, I'm hoping to get decent so I can hop in on the Arc Sys crossover game coming next year.
I can do quarter circles and half circles, but DPs are really difficult to do consistently, especially in an actual fight. Also for whatever reason, I can't break the mental block that keeps me from following up on air strings, but it's a matter of time. I've only been playing for 2 days now but it's a lot of fun.

this is r kappa in a nutshell
>>
>>384354012
combos can be fixed by practice. fifteen minutes of execution practice a day go a long way.

defense situations are hard and need proper game knowledge/feeling.
you can look at your own matches and try to find out what you did wrong. you can also ask others to help you with that.
often getting into that situation where you get pressured can get avoided.
>>
Injustice 2

Easy to learn and easy to beat someone using cheap tactics in ranked.

The game favours zoners so much it's kind of a joke

I'm going to recommend Skullgirls because it was my first fighting game and I got pretty good at it. Here's some reasons:
1. Simple but not dumbed down inputs + execution - Skullgirls keeps the inputs simple where possible. You'll learn quarter circles, DP motions, 360s and charge inputs (incredibly lenient charging time too)
2. Excellent tutorial - The tutorial will walk you through and teach you a lot, provided you're willing to sit and read the text for every lesson. It makes you complete "challenges" much like SFV but gives a lot of explanation on what you're doing and why,
3. Great community - Some people will scoff at this, but I think the game's community is excellent. If you seek out the discord servers (global or EU) people are always willing to help and play with you.
4. GGPO netcode - I don't know what magic this is, maybe you can look it up online, but GGPO netcode is the best shit ever and makes the game incredible smooth to play online, especially if you have good internet.
