In a similar vein, when I played MGR for the first time I couldn't even pass the first Gecko's you fight.. Looked up a basic video, and discovered that I was playing the game totally wrong. Bought Offensive Defense, and learnt how to Parry, and the game became so much more fun.

Only thing that really surprised me in Super Metroid was the Charge Jump, basically a ghetto Screw Attack. I had no idea that it existed and was fairly useful in the earlier parts of the game. I alsoknew about the super moves you could do with the various beams the first time I played through the game and even exploited them to beat almost every boss.

Branding in Shadow of Mordor. It's a mechanic that allows you to convert enemies to your side and adds a whole new dynamic to the game's central gimmick of persistent, unique opponents that level up. In Lost Odyssey you were able to switch equipment and rings during fights with no penalty whatsoever. I've almost beaten the game without realizing this. In a game focusing on weaknesses, it was infuriating sometimes.

For the whales you mean?
I played Demon's Souls before it was released in the west and that game was basically impossible to figure out without any help. Didn't know about fat/fastrolling, world tendency and so many other things until after beating the game. I only understood how weapon scaling worked at the end of my first run. I spent the whole run fatrolling in heavy armour. Flamelurker was pain without quick rolls or any fire resistance gear (I didn't even know there was any in the game at that point).
That game was so enigmatic it wasn't even funny. All that seems obvious now that the Souls series is popular and has been figured out completely, but back then there were no guides and nobody knew what the fuck was going on. It was fun though.
I didn't know how to use Mystic Artes in Xillia because Jude's Aqua Sweep is too op.

R+X+A unsheathes your switch axe in sword form.
But more embarassingly, X+A in sword form (and then mashing X) creates an elemental discharge and is the strongest attack you have.

In the Guitar Hero games "Pro Mode" requires that hammer-on/hammer-off notes BE hammered on/off, and not optionally strummed.

In Riviera: Promised Land you are supposed to level up your stats by mastering the use of your equipment/items.
But the OP-weapons that some bosses drop / are found in hidden chests have limited uses which makes it impossible to trigger a level up.It's possible to use training mode to level up with those weapons because weapons cannot break from overuse in training mode

I didn't know about the different ways of using the hook, like holding down the button makes you stay where you are. And you can do this on giant enemies, too...
Also, The Wonderful 101. I didn't know you could recruit enemies onto your team. I saw the thing scoreboard that said you could, but I never knew how.

The first time I played FF8 as a kid I never used draw in battle, or many of the conversion skills, so I pretty much only got magic from draw points on the map and missed several GFs. I remember thinking something like "why would I want to draw pictures in battle" and never tried doing it because of that.
I discovered that you can actually reasonably aim while remaining in third person after 23 hours in PUBG. I initially thought that the right click toggle was all there was, didn't realize you could hold it down as well.My first win was somehow prior to learning this
>>384351059
To be fair the only boss in DaS1 you could parry was Gwyn, so if you'd played that first you probably didn't have much of a reason to expect you could parry bosses in DaS2. Antidote potions and thawing potions as well, for resistances. I've been playing Diablo 2 since it was released and only found out about these a few months ago from some speedrun.
I only recently found out that you can switch between Ifrit and Alastor (DMC 1) using R3 when I was playing the the DMC HD collection-version.
Never knew about it on the ps2 version, though I did go back and confirm it was in that version too. Pretty sure it even lists it in the manual.

Each arcana has a list of personas that are assigned a level. When you fuse 2 personas you first take the arcana of both, then look in a chart which arcana corresponds with that mixture, then you average out the level of the two personas, then you look which persona of the new arcana is closest in level of the average.
For example fool+magician gives temperance in P4 and hierophant in P3. So if you fuse a lvl 15 fool+lvl 25 magician you average the level (you get 20) add 1 (21) and then look in the list of hierophant/temperance personas to see which one is closest to 21, that will be the result of your fusion.
For P2 the hierophant list is:
omoikane (7)
berith (13)
shiisa (26)
flauros (33)
thoth (41)
mokuto seikun (47)
daisoujou (53) (special fusion)
kohryu (66) (requires maxed hierophant)
So in this case you get shiisa since 26 is closest to 21.
