Have you tried the other classic golden era CRPGs? Baldur's Gate series, Planescape: Torment, Arcanum etc?

Any of the Fire Emblem games are good tactical rpgs, and Warcraft 3 is very similar to Fallout 1 and 2

playing this right now, the writing ranges from kinda funny and endearing to bland and generic fantasy fluff, especially the main quest but the combat is quite fun

looking forward to the sequel and it also got me interested enough to pick up the old games which I also hear are good
