Why was it even called SMTxFire Emblem? From what I've seen of the game it involves nothing from either franchise, and uses modern Persona's battle system more than anything.

It was announced as a crossover. the guy in charge of making it used mostly persona and FE instead so they HAD to stop calling it a crossover and hope people would forget.

Bro, it was a better Persona game than Persona 3/4. That's pretty nice out of a crossover, and beats the shit out of the expected SRW/NxC/PxZ tier bad SRPG I've come to expect from RPG crossovers.

Yeah I felt bad for fans of both series when that trailer finally hit. I'd played a few SMT games before but haven't finished any. Still enjoy the demon designs and settings of the games and I'm curious if mainline SMT or even the spinoffs will get another chance to do a crossover game as I'd be interested in something like pic related.

hard to say. It's the SMT 25th anniversary right now so depending on the direction they take with SMT V or whatever it ends up being called they might consider it. Though there aren't a lot of RPG series that could mesh well with SMT tbqh

It was quite possibly one of the most Japanese games released that year, and on a system that didn't sell well anywhere. It was a bold idea and executed not that poorly, but it's not really what the global market was going to respond to, as it was so steeped in Japanese idol culture that localizing it was barely feasible.
