Right now? Going with youtube is the smart way. It's accessible, everyone uses it, and it's a good place to go for this sort of material. If I tried to do this on a normal website, no one would visit it. Not only that, I'd have to fiddle around with a built in website video player, and I'd probably have to buy a liscence for one. It's just too expensive to run a website, and as a starting position, not a great idea. Once the channel gets a fanbase, I plan on creating a website and hosting the videos on there as well as youtube, then slowly move the fanbase away from youtube once youtube starts going down the shitter, which it will.

When I edit my videos the normal way, it takes me an hour-two hours. When we did it to a higher quality and standard, he spend 8 hours because of how much work he had to put in to cut it up, put in funny commentary/relevant pictures and gifs, and then check it and recheck it for quality, which as of right now is way more work than we need to be putting in right now.

I refuse to believe that you're getting high quality content at only 1-2 hours. Not-just-a-stream-upload content, sure, but a half-assed nonsense edit for - say - a minute and a half video takes me at least an hour on its own. That's animating only three/four PNGs, checking for text timing (even worse if I'm syncing it to specific quotes), cutting shlock I don't need, audio balancing/mixing/editing. A 'proper' video release takes my buddy and I at least 6 hours, and that's considered quick between the two of us for a video that's maybe 3-5 minutes long.

Lord knows how we used to do a single ten minute video a week with all kinds of difficult-ass PNG jokes like this fucking thing:

The BT, DSC, and tutorial videos is where we get a lot of our views. We look at something that nobody touches, and try to fill in that niche. We do five videos a week for variety. We're not trying to pump out 10-15 minute videos. We want our videos to be more like a show, rather than just bullshit that we can crank out. So it's more substance rather than hollow "lol so randumb" shit that most of these jack asses in youtube are doing.

I stopped watching 90sec in. Your video is extremely generic and adds very little discussion to the topic. These are obvious ideas that everyone has or things that have been mentioned since the game's release, like the poor reception of the game's music. The editing is ok but when you cut to the Uncharted gameplay, it's very abrupt. Ease that shit in. Cut it in early with no audio, then fade in the audio as you finish mentioning Uncharted. Have you ever tried acting or voice acting, or even doing a simple voice over off of a script? It's surprisingly, and extremely, difficult to get the right words and inflection out whenever you want to. So all those cuts are for every mistake made. That's not so much an issue with the editing; it's with the style of video. You can't have a casual one-man-one-camera setup and then read from a script; it doesn't fucking work. I checked out a bit of his "WTF is Titanfall 2" video. I couldn't disagree more. He chastises the game for encouraging elevated navigation via wall running and double jumps and claims that it just doesn't work. I know first person platforming can be rough (I'll never forget Turok on the N64) but I feel like T2 pulled it off well. His admittance to have outright skipped level 4 because of this is disappointing. T2 is, in my opinion, one of the more clever FPS games out there because of how effectively it marries movement with shooting. Removing one from the other leaves the game far, far weaker overall.

Focusing on a single game is a death trap. You need to broaden to either a certain skill (reviews, news, etc) or to specific genres or consoles. Narrowing down to the flavor of the month and only that is always a bad idea, but so is having no focus at all. Balance, as usual, is the key.

You'll get Photoshop, After Effects, and Premiere.

Photoshop for Thumbnails.

After Effects can be good for animated logos, and other things like lower thirds or section headers.

Premiere is my favorite video editing software. Lots of good built in features, and I prefer it's interface to something like Vegas.

There are free alternatives, like Gimp, but I always hated using them... Photoshop is just the best.

I know people shit on Final Cut X a lot but it's a really good and powerful editing program that's easy to use and it's cheap. The big problem, though, is that you need a fairly strong Apple computer to run it well, which is overpriced as fuck. If you already happen to have a decent iMac then Final Cut is a great option to consider. Otherwise, Adobe is definitely the way to go. There are some free alternatives out there too though, if you can't afford it and don't feel like torrenting.

Keep in mind, though, that just because you have a legal right to do something doesn't make it illegal to try and stop you from doing it. Corporations have ever right to claim that you're infringing on their material even if they're wrong, and it can take quite some time to set things right. It's bullshit but that's how YouTube is at the moment. It's a rare case when monteization isn't involved though. Wouldn't that sorta solve the whole ad revenue shit without having to go through 3rd party (like patreon) just to support (or be support) by people that watch your channel to begin with? Like a super sub button on your channel, $4.99 a month subscription, some way for you to display who's your subs or you can give shoutouts in new videos in the end-credits/screen section. You sub to their channel and maybe get some stupid emotes in exchange, but its mainly for supporting them. You shouldn't have to pay to see videos. You SHOULD be able to subscribe much like patreon or twitch does, just for support however, if they want to. I've had a few people ask me if I will setup a donation thing for youtube since they liked my content but had no way to support me otherwise. It's...going, I guess. We've kind of been losing steam on some of the series we've been doing. And we have an issue where we're hemorrhaging views, lately.

Our first video, somehow. It still gets views every so often, even with it being as old as it is. I have no idea where people are finding it, it has awful audio mixing, the video quality is off, and we were so new and awkward about recording.
