>Games made after the 90s suck
I disagree, games from 2000-2006 were still fantastic. It was 2006-2007 with the Wii, the iPhone, Big bang theory, social media, etc. where they truly went downhill.

>tfw after ten long years the "lol im such a nerd" fad is finally dying.
I dont think games will ever recover though.

Super Mario Galaxy is on the Wii though

you can let 2006 slide but 2007 is when things really started to change in terms of the landscape of the internet and those who inhabit it.

It's too early to tell, the fad needs to die off completely for games to recover.

2000-2005: classic 2000s
2006: transition
2007-2009: modern 2000s

I'd say late 2007; specifically when COD4 fucking EXPLODED in popularity is where shit started to swerve out of control.

After that shooters and cinematic narrative experiences took off like never before and practically eclipsed all other popular shit being pushed at the time.

The N64/PS1/Saturn era sacrificed some of its potential to properly set up the Gamecube/PS2/Xbox/Dreamcast era, which I believe was the golden era of gaming. Technology had finally reached a peak where people could make games without really worrying very much about hardware limitations, and the game industry was still so small potatoes that capitalism hadn't yet sunk its fangs in hard, leaving the field free for a lot of experimentation, innovation, and so on, to the point that I'd say we have largely been playing prettied up PS2/GC era games ever since.

To this day, most of the games and series I love came from this generation, the games themselves hold up better, and my backlog for this generation is by far larger than any other generation.
