I think it is absolutely stupid that the writers of Persona 5 are more concerned with making a jerk off fantasy for the male viewer than they are writing realistic female characters who have agency. Criticisms have been around since the JP launch, which is one of the reasons discussion died down in Western markets pretty quickly. Persona's pandering towards its target audience has always been at odds with its desire to present a mature narrative, but those moments are thankfully less prevalent in 5 than in previous entries. 5's undermining of female and LGBT characters notwithstanding, it's an improvement over Fuuka "tickling" herself with a vibrator, Mitsuru walking around her hot, steamy bedroom while naked, Aigis' social link ending with her moaning as you press her happy button, Teddie's incessant flirting, Yosuke preemptively buying and then pressuring the ladies of the team into wearing swimsuits, or the constant homophobia directed towards Kanji. The most egregious examples I can recall from Persona 5 are thankfully brief in comparison.

Persona is a series about self-actualization that also heavily promotes your ability to run a harem with a gaggle of female characters who are never allowed to have partners, be gay, or not find the self-insert MC romantically appealing. You learn to look past the hypocrisy at some point.

Out of a dozen plus women in your party over the course of three games, none of them ever even so much as suggest interest in anyone other than the MC.

The point of Persona 5, and the reason why you can establish a confidant with these characters, is that every person is being shit on by society in some way.
There's plenty of npcs and Mementos missions involving people who are dating or married, but they're obviously not "rejected by society" if someone's banging them.
