Don't ever hold down to roll when in combat, flicking is how you kill people. Kinda the same thing but avoid walking anywhere, flick some paint and then hide in that paint, swim forwards then repeat. As a roller you're going to get out ranged by most weapons, the vertical jump flick does help, but you're gonna wanna be more sneaky and swim around.

So the aesthetic of the first game was obviously pretty early/mid 90s, the only anachronistic thing really being a pop star duo (I feel like Off the Hook would have fit better for the first game, they'd fit well with that time). I think it's safe to say that Splatoon 2 is late 90s/early 2000s with the extreme sports aesthetic. I feel like idol duos popped up around that time too, so Squid Sisters might have fit better there.

I'd buy Splatoon 2. It's a multiplayer game and they're always a lot of fun to play in the beginning because of all the noobs.
