This aesthetic is so fucking fantastic, and yet almost none of it was in the actual game. Instead they opted for those Hot Topic reject designs from their collaboration with Roen, and architecture lifted from real life locations.

It reminds me a bit of The Order 1868, another failed game with great initial concepts and art direction.

I have. All the FF aesthetics are locked in short, out of context cutscenes, and in setpieces you're in for less than a minute.

Tenebrae has wonderful art assets, and yet you don't even visit it in the game, it's only in promotional prerendered trailers and one room used in two cutscenes.

I'd dare say that Nomura doesn't need FF at this point.

What we need now is a Hiroyuki Ito-directed FF XVI with Yoshida leading the art department.
That should return the series to form.
