They could conceivably argue that Cloud just *pushed* Aeris and then started punching the ground to stop himself from punching her. It actually does kind of look that way because of the way the old graphics worked, even though I think everyone who played it at the time believes the intent was to show Cloud hitting her even if they didn't pull it off very well. Maybe they'll claim that people misinterpreted it before and that now, with the benefit of better graphics and animation, they can do the scene the way it was always meant to be done, with no ambiguity due to technical limitations.

On the other hand, these are Japanese devs, and Japanese devs have been pretty good about telling SJWs to fuck off, so maybe they'll just keep the scene the way it was.
