I'm not sure yet. The UI is so absurdly simple that I'm worried it means that character gimmicks are going to be ignored for the sake of a crossover game. Like Persona was kind of balanced around stronger characters having less cards so a persona break against them was more severe or you had BB characters like Rachel or Arakune that heavily revolved around their extra meter. All their characters are pretty gimmicky like Bang's nails and Fu-rin-ka-zan so just a health bar and just a special bar seems really suspicious to me.

Not really, I played two of the games. The remake of HDN and HDN 2, since people told me the remakes 'fixed a lot of shit'.

The gameplay was bland as fuck, the memes were way OTT, the animations were incredibly dull, and the entire game itself was just very lackluster, it had nothing appealing to it whatsoever. I thought i'd like it because I enjoy grindfests, I gave it a good go, and it was a huge let down.

The only defense it has is that it was made in one of the earlier volumes, which had absolutely abysmal animation. Ever since Oam croaked, the animation has improved slightly, but the fight choreography is in the shitter because they passed it on to animators that don't understand how he worked (he synced his animations to the music rather than using specific cues)

No it doesn't. They might have a moment or two that looks good, but the fight scenes overall are pretty bad.

Like, I liked Haloid and Dead Fantasy when they first came out but looking back on them the fights feel so weightless as the characters kept taking huge hits yet never suffering any damage from it, and RWBY fights all suffer from that same issue. There was this scene where Weiss stabs a chainsaw dude about a dozen times but he gets up no worse for the wear. Or this other scene in the first season where they all fight this giant bird, Blake runs up its back slashing it along the way and the bird barely reacts. And in that same fight it ends with Ruby running up a wall dragging the bird with her, she's shooting her gun while she runs up. Presumably, she's using the force of the recoil to help her go up but there's no force at all. Its just a smooth run all the way to the top with no change in speed that you would expect from the recoil.
