So... i'm actually missing something for not had played The Witcher 1 and 2? I played The Witcher 3 and loved it, should i go for 1 and 2?

Heres what i think the problem was with Witcher 1.

Like in Metroid, God of War, or just about any other game, you get started off in in you full upgraded gear for the prologue and then have it stripped away. This gives people a taste of what the combat could become later and install some patience.

With witcher you could barely even swing a sword, no bombs, potions extra weapons and upgrades and everyone thought 'the combat was shit' when hardly anyone got past chapter 1.

I recently finished The Witcher 1 and now I'm playing The Witcher 2... what the fuck just happened? they consolized the game and is just so slow and boring to prepare for a battle and navigate trough the menus, the locking target don't lock the camera on the target, if you get hit in the back you lose A LOT of your health, all the hotkeys on the first game are gone. I'm uncomfortably playing this just to get to the third game

TW1 uses the same engine as NWN2. NWN2's combat system entails clicking on a target and watching the system roll dice while you autoattack swings at the enemies, occasionally selecting skills to use. The rhythm system adds more involvement to that process, as do the various styles/potions.

That's a respectable opinion. Real questions is, HoS or BaW? I'm partial to HoS only because the story is top tier, and the entire dlc due to being smaller has a much stronger narrative and great pacing. Also, being based on an old folkstory helps, and the final choice feels like a real witchers choice.

But, the atmosphere in BoW is amazing, the art direct is great, and Toussaint feels like 3 going back to the more fairytale like roots in 1.

Toussaint looks fucking incredible because CDPR Aren't super anal about distant object LOD.

I can see a lot of low res textures and LOD objects in the distant in Toussaint as well, but It's way better to just show it and let the world design melt into itself, imperfections and all, rather than trying to half-assedly cover it up with some fog. I downloaded a mod that removes the fog for Velen/Novigrad and the game looks so much better. Not as good as Toussaint since the "darkening" layer for distant objects didn't exist, but way better than vanilla.
Shame it doesn't work with STLM.

it's actually because they completely rewrote their rendering pipeline just for Blood & Wine. It allowed them to remove the fog and extend draw distance without murdering performance on consoles.
As a result Toussaint performs much better than the base game despite looking a lot better as well.

It's very slow, very static. The combat is a chore or a snore depending on the difficulty.

Anyone else notice how the story, and specifically the ending, of the Witcher 1 and 3 echo each other, especially if you get the bad end for the latter.
Both end up clutching the pendant of a child surrogate they've looked after throughout the game. Both children had elder blood. Both die in the artic wastes of the White Frost. Both react to your words and actions throughout the game. Also, Jaques de Aldersberg did nothing wrong.

Each Witcher lost a bit of its atmosphere due to streamlined gameplay and bigger budget for art direction. They do not understand that Geralt from W1 and overall game had a distinct feel to it, it was haggard, hungry, ugly and dashing at the same time. Put picture of W1 Geralt besides W2/3 Geralt, it's not the same person.

For the same reason original 'ugly' Deus Ex looks far better than Eidos Montreal games. Technological limitations can produce wonders in terms of art direction, inadvertent as it is. As soon they got money CDPR revealed themselves as normie central.
