People is already talking about 8k.
For fucks sake... 4K is still on his baby steps!!
How much K this resolution meme will go until it dies!?
>>
it'll probably die in 8k-16k, by there you cant even notice much difference unless you have a fuckhuge screen and sit in really close, so close your eyes would hurt
>>
The tech will likely continue to be developed for handheld screens and VR
>>
>>384177165
>8k on handheld
Subatomic pixels? I think it's going too far.
>>
>>384176918
I hope so.
I don't want to spend more money on monitor.
I want to my 1366x768 old AOC monitor be enough to endure more years.
>>
>>384176918
16k-24k is when people won't see any difference anymore
>>
>>384176624
>implying 1080k isn't going to be used to refer to how many pixels are on the screen
muh resolution is something that has been actively increasing for decades, it has just been recognized more in the last few because some dipshit marketing team manage to make it a marketable point and everyone else jumped onto the wagon.
>>
>>384176624
Fuck resolution, 4404fps when?
>>
>>384180543
I hope never.
>>
>>384178862
That's not true. 12k is when it will stop because the human eye can only see 12k but since we have two of them 24k will feel the most natural. Anything more seems too real
>>
depends on how far away you are from the screen

with vr, having the screen right in front of your eyes, you'll need a very high pixel density to not be able to see them anymore

it'll still keep going on for awhile

same with color and motion

4k is enough.

There might be some value in 8k for cinema, but not for home viewing.

Your eyes actually can't tell the difference between 720 and 1080 at standard TV viewing distance on a normal sized TV. This is why almost every TV show is broadcast at 720.

4k is for large screens or PC monitors, anything that brings the screen closer to your eyes requires a boost in resolution to maintain fidelity.

VR might actually benefit from 8k, come to think of it. I don't know for sure, though.

This, but TV companies need to be paid, and fools and their coin are easily parted. Stupid gamers will be buying new TVs every 5 years for no reason until the end of time.

480p was enough, 1080p is fucking plenty, 4k is negligible depending on your eyesight and screen size, 8k is fucking stupid. What, are you going to get a screen that doesn't fit your cone of vision?
>>
>>384184019
no
1440p is a massive upgrade on a 5+in screen
>>
>>384176624
Marketing bullshit that got widespread by some dummies.

Thank marketers for that. Technology can't get to the 4K counsumer level that will be affordable and people now want 8K.

Fuck you, you pice of shit compainies that advertises 4K.

Next logical step should be QHD.

8K really is getting to the ultimate end target resolution. 4K still has slight but noticeable aliasing on any screen over 27 inches which is pretty much eliminated if you slap 2x AA over the top and you get some damn sharp visuals. Any more than that though isn't really necessary because you're already on some serious diminishing returns.
>>
>>384184474
high resolution = makes everything better
high refresh rate = makes competitive fps better
>>
>>384182583
You could have gone to a local store and bought it
>>
>>384182583
You probably bought it from the cheapest dealer they had available just like everyone else, and the dealer's stock is sold out but they still have orders to fulfill so now you need to wait on them to get more stock in.

This has happened to me with video cards. Someone posts them for their actual MSRP instead of these "OH SHIT THE BITCOIN MINERS ARE BUYING ALL THE GPUS RAISE THE PRICE" meme price, then everyone tries to buy it from them and suddenly they're out of stock and aren't getting more until November. I've had to cancel 4 orders now because of this.

What people need to understand is that movies shot on film have an image much more dense than our current pixel densities.

You can't convert film to pixel density directly, but you can make the estimation that 35mm film is about 20 megapixels and 70mm film is about 40 megapixels. Compare that to 4k, which is about 9 megapixels and you'll see that we have a long way to go.

>>
>>384185962
screens in a VR headset are very close to your eyes and magnified by lenses so it's not like TV screens will need 64K but the technology WILL probably get pushed to 64K due to VR technology.

netflix 4k isn't really very good. yeah it is shot in 4k (actually some are shot in 5k) but streaming means you're bandwidth limited in that domain. Netflix certainly aren't streaming 40mbit HEVC, more like 10-20mbit.

So it looks better than netflix's 1080p, but not better than a high quality 1080p blu ray.

Some stuff is being released on blu-ray in 4k, like Planet Earth II and Westworld. I am most excited for these, particularly Planet Earth II.

4k piracy won't take off until AACS 2.0 is defeated though.
>>
>>384186172
How much of that 20 megapixels is going to be accurate information, and how much is going to be just noise?
>inb4 film grain is artistic
>>
As someone who uses 4K regularly for PC gaming, I think we are about to hit a resolution threshold where increasing it further will not matter all that much. Not to mention it is going to take years for 4K to become a common standard that most corporations will shoot for, and years for tech to be cheap enough to do true 4K without upscaling.

Honestly, there are some things in 4K that hurt my eyes just to look at. No joke.
>>
>>384187763
whether or not film grain is artistic isn't important. It exists in some movies, and removing it from those movies objectively changes the look of the movie. If you want an accurate reproduction of that movie, it should include the film grain. If you don't want an accurate reproduction, I suggest you find a few picasso paintings and put them in a looping gif.
