Redpill me, car game fans. What's the point of this game?
It claims to be a realistic simulator when it clearly lacks everything about the simulation department and what makes these games fun.

Who even looks forward to this game aside from hardcore GT fanboys who don't really care about the content anyway, they buy only for the name?
Forza has more content, better graphics and sound, slightly less shit damage model.
Assetto Corsa and Project Cars are more realistic. I don't see a single reason to roll with this game instead of the other options.

GT is the only game that has a focus on the "love" of cars.

the driving isn't that bad but there's better yeah. it's an alright package with decent sp content and fun mp and lots of car porn shit.

Does Gran Turismo have proper crash mechanics yet? The last one I played was on the Playstation 3 and when you run into something, the car just stops. If I hit something, I want my car to be wrecked.

There are plenty of games with proper damage models where you can completely wreck your car. See Grid 1. If they could get away with it, I don't see how others can't. Why don't they make rekk models like Grid 1 anymore?

there is probably some truth in that but I think the real reason is basically waste of resources. GT is never intended to be a crash test game or destruction game. focus is on clean racing and destruction in that sense is basically a gimmick mechanic. it doesn't add anything to the gameplay but it puts a lot of work to recreate destruction every single car. the game would turn into a destruction derby game in an instant and that's not what gt is all about.

But it's not. It's hardly a car simulator. While the game is very heavy on car porn, the actual driving mechanics of the series are pretty supbar. If you want realistic driving, you'd play iRacing.

Well, if I crash into another car or into the wall and nothing happens just a wonky sound effect, the immersion kinda breaks then and there. They don't have to make crashes hyper realistic or turn it into a car crash simulator, but it has to be "there". Something like GTA4/5 level would be sufficient. The current way it's a joke. Given their massive bloated budget I fail to see why they couldn't do it. The guys lack passion for creating the best game they could.

The game has just the right balance of realism and arcade in terms of drive physics.

It has the most solid and vast online community of any racing game. Most racing games online communities die after a year or less. These games have a lot of users until the new ones come out.

Verities of sport: drifting, drag, oval track, road course, circuit, highway cruising.

Lots of cars.

User friendly menus.

I don't know about you, but I rarely have the opportunity to go on a race track. And to be honest can't affort a car suitable for that and don't really have space for more cars.

Not even going to pretend that pretending to drive cars is anywhere near the real thing, but it's still fun.

That's a very fancy way of saying the game doesn't use rubberbanding, which I'm not entirely convinced is true. In any case, I don't think it has anything to do with physics engine, more like a difficulty setting, which I am sure can be turned off in other games as well.

GT6 is definitely just a simplified physics engine, they even talk about in the development videos for the prototype cars...that very same physics engine is what gives atleast a realistic ATTEMPT at different airflow over different surfaces, and consequently give an in-game comparison between different existing cars. i think this is one of the reasons Porsche opted into other games and not GT6, because other games are games and GT6 is a sim.
