With the recent criticisms of current /v/ recommendations wiki, I've decided to make a new one.
This one drops the wiki style in favor of a search-able database in which every recommended game is located. each game has multiple categories in which genre and preferred or best system to play on.
We have one problem though, the V-List doesn't have any games in it, and that's where this thread comes in.

Submit your game you want to be added as follows
Game Name
Genre
Systems / Preferred Systems
a straw poll pertaining to that game.

here is a working link to the list
http://34.210.152.140/
(no domain yet)
You may also submit logos, articles (pastebin preferred) to be added on a later date here as well.

It recommends Gone Home, for one.

There's nothing wrong with the /v/ wiki outside of the modern gen systems, which you shouldn't be playing anyway. Remove the PS4, XBone, Wii U and Switch and the shovelware goes away.

>whoever currently owns it forgot it was about /v/, as in, this board and its taste.
Tell me anon, whats "/v/'s" opinion of Undertale?

The amount of people that crossed over from Tumblr to talk about the game at launch meant you couldnt get an actual opinion about the game from /v/, and once the GameFAQ's shit hit the fan people were saying it was a good game just to get free (You's). This is all disregarding the fact that it was shilled when the Kickstarter went live (Even though that got a decent reception due to it only being The Ruins and not having a clear indication of how bad the writing would get later in the game) and at launch.

It was a game made by Homestuck fans for their Tumblr circle and anybody who enjoyed it says its writing, filled with dead memes and random humor along with its basic plot and twists, was "amazing". How are you going to deal with the Strawpoll bombing of that game, either positive or negative?
>>
>>384153494
I personally don't think having a wiki for a set of lists isn't a good idea. The only benefit to having that would to have a semi HG101 style thing with a page talking about the game, but that can easily replaced with something more intuitive.
>>
Who in their right mind would want video game recommendations from /v/ in the first place though

Besides it'll always either be a shitshow from a thousand different anons or 1-5 people making all the decisions of what to add in which case they'll be their recommendations rather than /v/'s

>>
>>384154590
Well, I'm split between which version. The Wii's waggle is done pretty surprisingly well, and it offers widescreen. But the Gamecube has better graphics (some particle effects were removed from the Wii version).

I guess if someone was to emulate the game through Dolphin, the widescreen issue and controller issue would be moot. But on real hardware, you gotta choose between widescreen, waggle, and slightly worse graphic effects, or 4:3, standard controls, and better graphics.

Tactical RPG with Disciples like combat system but using unit numbers instead of HP, also features dungeon fights where it's only characters.

It contains lots of content, pretty cool and nonlinear story line that is affected by your choices of when and in what order to conquer shit on top of other more obvious choices. You really need to find a better way to do this. Having thousands of individual polls made is extremely unlikely and even more unlikely is that over 1% of them will get any attention. This is basically what Steam did.
Does anyone notice that basically all of Steam has positive reviews? Steam did that so they can all have positive reviews, becuase their goal is to sell games, not be critical.

The problem with yes/no votes means that a vast majority of games will be recommended, because there is no difference in recommendation of a great game vs one that was alright to play.

The whole point of a site like this is so you understand the reviewers tastes and can use that to make assertions whether the recommendation is valid.

>It's shit 0/10
>it's GOAT 10/10
Means shit if it's anonymous.

If someone you know hates puzzle games says a puzzle game was fun, and you have the same tastes as that person it might be worth checking out.

At the end of the day, these sites don't work based on that. And if somehow it did get up and running and comprehensive, it wouldn't be exclusively /v/ anymore, so you can forget that.

For old games included in rom compilations instead of actual ports, in what situation would you choose the rom compilation over just getting the game for the original system? The only reasons I can think is if it includes bonus content (which is usually minor shit), if it includes bugfixes (which is usually not the case), or if it's was Japan-exclusive on the original console and the compilation includes a localization (which translation patches usually alleviate).

I don't think this will work as many games have tons of fans but also people who just hate the game more than they normally would, because it's popular.
For example quite a few people here love Zelda but then again since the switch release people hate it a lot, mainly from all the spam and kids flooding in.
Similarly like Bloodborne getting hate from PC gamers since it's an exclusive and it's been cool to hate the souls series since it' popular.

It pretty much turns into, does this game's fanbase annoy you or is this popular game something you don't like, rather than, is this a good game?
I mean I don't like Monster Hunter or Uncharted but I acknowledge it's a good game, quite a few people like them.

At that point you need a curator.

Listen, I've seen absolute bottom of the barrel shit have a fanbase, and in general, most games are OK, and playable. Very few are unplayable garbage.

This means most games will get approved. Which means you're running into content bloat, and exactly the same problem the current wiki has.

You can't do it without a curator. At which point it's no longer /v/ and anonymous. Pick your poison.
>>
>>384153114
Lyric was always an asshole. Fucker deleted all of NESfag's screencaps. IIRC he's still not an admin, and Magma needs to shut the fuck up.

Also, I admittedly fucked a few things up myself, because I was worried that we'd have the whole damn thing deleted because wikia's staff have the same paper skin as tumblr (which is why we got hit with a "mature content" warning when we started listing porn games).

And since you fags don't know shit about shit, Reddit was had linked to us without our permission and despite our protests and attempts to remove the link, the cunt admins over there refused to do so (getting in contact with them is also a pain in the ass as well because they have no emails or messaging outside of using fucking reddit, and fuck that).

Oh, and outside of reddit, Twitter and Facebook also had a shit ton of casuals and normalfags sharing the wiki address as well (this was actually something of a surprise for me, since I didn't think they'd give that big a shit).

The roughest problem, content-wise, that wikia was busting our asses about was that there were links to romsites and whatnot early on, because that's technically linking to "illegal content" or some shit.

The whole wikia thing, at least what I think could be from Kotep's perspective, is that it was meant to be easy to use, easy to edit, and available for anyone (since even non-logged in users could edit stuff). Unfortunately, this meant spam from outside parties (like R4), edit wars, and other bullshit coming from both inwards and outwards.

If it had been merely a domain built from the start by /v/ for /v/ with no outside parties like Wikia enforcing rules, then I think everything could have gone better. I wouldn't have been worried as much, the users would be more free to do whatever (for better or worse), and maybe we would have been anonymous, or at worst, only used numbers or something garbled equivalent to tripcodes instead of dumbass names.

recommendation: shut off write access after a day so it doesn't eventually get overrun by reddit cancer like the old one did
>>
>>384173046
I don't really care about the old wiki, and I have no beef with the new one. I personally don't give a shit if you use anything you think has value of the old wiki either, but Kotep might, since he made the thing, so you might want to let him know if you directly rip assets and what not. He's a pretty cool and calm guy though, and I get the feeling he'd be alright with it as long as you just give him a notice ahead of time.

Hopefully it won't run on wikia, and end up on its own site free from outsider rules and non-/v/ bullshit, which would be for the best.
As I noted, I have no problem admitting I personally fucked up big time, even worse so when I didn't notice that I left the locks on too long, which was bullshit on my part, among other stupid shit I did.

That being said, as a small and really obvious warning, do make sure that whatever you do, you keep out cunts who are all about fucking everyone's shit up i.e. really rotten shit like throwing malicious code in the site through some means or hosting shilling for stuff like china products, not minor stuff like people who argue about games and whether something deserves a place in the rec wiki or not. That minor stuff will sort itself out, but I'd hate for someone actually trying to maintain the new site to be fucked over because of bullshit.

Time to take this dumbass tripcode off.

>Assuming you're actually a real admin at the wiki and not just some troll,
I was. I voluntarily gave up my position after my fuck repeated fuck ups, and I would only use the login again if something really fucking bad happened (example: malicious code and/or files or a majority of the pages overrun with spam and pics of shitting dick nipples) and nobody else was taking care of it.
>do you think it's salvageable?
At first, I was going to say "LOL NO", but
>Maybe not as a Wikia hosted wiki, of course,
Then I guess so, buuuut
>but what if it gets mirrored to a different domain, and all the shit content edited out. That's what /vg/'s emulation wiki did when they left Wikia.
as I said in >>384174359 (you're alright, you posted this before I submitted my reply, so no big deal)
I don't think you should really bother.
I figure you all can just take whatever you find worth a damn and use it on the new site. Some of the pics especially are pretty solid quality (Example: I remember someone else finding a pic of the boxart for Konami's Hunter X Hunter GBC castlevania-like game in much better quality than I could find at the time).
If you all decide on using something more akin to a database style format (I think one guy tried something like this a few years ago but I forgot the link. It was impressive though, even used some sort of recommendation algorithms or something, but I don't know if it ever took off. I was an idiot back then and figured we didn't need it due to the wiki, but when I actually looked at it a day after or so, I was damn impressed and really regret being such a dick to the guy.).

The only thing that really sucks about all of this is that Reddit will probably get their grubby claws on it as well after linking to it from their site. I didn't even know about >>384160871 until today. Fuck reddit and wikia.

Weekly is definitely the best for shit like this, daily threads attract mod attention and shitposters, neither of which you want.

>>384154554
please give sauce to the music in that gif please god dammit someone has to find it one day.
>>
>>384176215
There isn't a problem with daily, I just said weekly because I know interest will taper off. You don't want threads where its dominated by the same group of people all the time or you will end up just having the same problem again.
>>
>>384176215
>I was thinking daily but weekly will do as well I guess.
don't do it weekly or daily
do it on a random schedule or you'll attract circlejerkers. random day every 1-3 weeks.

cmon, you can do better than that.

>>384156185

Sengoku plays like those Koei games like Nobunaga's Ambition and Romance of the Three Kingdoms, the older ones. It is much simpler, and has a VN side to it, and lots of H.

For games on systems with different names depending on region (example: Genesis/Mega Drive, Turbografx-16/PC Engine, Super Nintendo/Super Famicom), which name do we use for the system. Both? Same thing applies for games with different names dependent on region (example: Contra is Probotector in Europe. Goemon's Great Adventure is Mystical Ninja Starring Goemon 2 in Europe.)

Me neither.

Surely DK 94 belongs on a list of this type, but it gets me thinking about the organization of the thing when it comes to systems, or preferred systems.

I think if it is a title available on download shops, the compatible consoles for download versions shouldn't be listed in the consoles section, instead just original system releases for that version, and then a separate tab (available as digital download) list all systems that have a download version.

Not all games run best on the hardware they were made for either. DK 94 was a Game Boy game on a Super Game Boy game pak which means the best way to play it is on a Super Nintendo with the Super game Boy Adapter. It's not just this game either.

Shantae is a GBC game, but it plays best on a GBA

Red Dead Redemption is an Xbox 360 and PS3 release, with the Xbox 360 version being the definitive choice due to it playing better, with no tearing on Xbox One.

and what about modified Download exclusives with expansions released?

The ONLY complete level release of Super Mario Advance 4 is on Wii U, because it has all the eReader card levels plus the Wal-mart exclusive Airship card.

Like OP, I know this is a great idea and it's just the start, but if you really want to have a preferred/available systems category, it may need to be elaborated upon.

vs-antirecommended-games.wikia.com

I've made this wiki so that we can list the reasons why games are shit, why we hate them, and why nobody should ever play them even if they are recommended here, so start making pages and write whatever you want to fill it out
