Why do people credit Doom for pioneering FPS genre when Wolfenstein 3D exists? Wolfenstein 3D and Doom are very mechanically similar games and Wolfenstein 3D came out first.
who cares, ever played wolfenstein 3D? that shit is wack
Doom was a significant step up from Wolfenstein 3D in terms of maps. The maps in Wolfenstein were very simple mazes while Doom had fairly complex architecture in comparison.

Oh wanted to add that Wolfenstein 3D wasn't even the first in that genre, just the most well known.
I don't think anyone with any real interest in video games doesn't know that Wolfenstein 3D exists. That was the game that bought Romero and Carmack their Ferraris, it's not like it was obscure at all. If you want to get technical, Hovertank and Catacomb 3D existed even before Wolfenstein, and Mazewar before any of them, but these games are all extremely primitive and barebones compared with Doom. Doom set the standard on enemy and weapon variety as well as offering far more complexity in its levels than anything you can do in Wolfenstein's engine.
the no texture ceilings and floors in 3D gives me a headache
