I am actually. I have my life/career in check and video games aren't my sole hobby.
I'm also aware of my appearance and actions in public and generally don't make people cringe when they interact with me, unlike your standard /v/ or reddit user.


When the crash remakes first came out I over heard two people talking about it while I was in the library. I was there studying and they both had giant "gaming" laptops.
There was a lul in their conversation and I was getting a little tired of pharmacokenetics so I butted in and told them I was pretty excited about the remakes.
They then professed their dissatisfaction about how difficult the game is in their reddit memespeak.
I told them that the games came from an era where handholding was looked down upon and that you get a nice feeling of satisfaction when you finally 100% that really difficult level.
They laughed and told me that any game without a ranked multiplayer can never be satisfying. They proceeded to discuss what "league" characters they were gonna buy.

Just make friends, that what I did Freshman year of college. There was like 30 of us and we all hung out and did homework, watched movies, and played video games in the common room dorm. Of those 30 there's like 5 of them including myself adept to playing video games at a decent enough level.

Back to your original question though, simple matter is you don't. Just make friends and who knows maybe one of them will end a being a legitimate friend and someone you can play video games with. Personally speaking what usually helps are games that can bring a crowd together, like fighting games.
