Might be you anon, I just finished the ds version last week myself and there was definitely sounds for weapons. I don't remember if it had it but did you check if it has a sound effects setting? If you bought a used copy maybe the previous owner turned it off.

Everything else sound good, every other attack from non-sword users too. It's only Frog and Crono (lucky for me because my team is going to be Ayla, Marle and Lucca) but it still annoying.

Dude, a sound effect is not worth restarting a game over. Also the snes version has a worst script and if you want to do it the ds version has exclusive bonus stuff not in any other version.
