Republic Commando is a focused game that tells the story of a commando unit and its focus on you commanding your squad. It allows for a good story.

Battlefront 2 is about massive battles playing a grunt, a cog in the war machine. The story doesnt need to be interesting because the point isnt the story. The reason why people praise the story isnt that it was really really good, it was that they were expecting no story and instead got a simple but very effective story that gave context to what they were doing. Its really all anyone wanted.

That's exactly what I mean, which is why it works so well. As much as the movies and the vast majority of SW media focuses on Rebels/Republic and thus the negative aspects of the Empire (naturally), the best parts of the EU were the ones that showed you both sides - the Empire is still the protector of order and safety for the vast majority of the Galaxy, so it would make sense they wouldn't give all their capital ships negative names. The Eviscerator works if you're going to punish a system, but I can't imagine people would feel very protected by having the 'Eviscerator' guarding them every day, nor would it give you the impression you were protecting people while serving on it.

It's good that there's a balance between the two, and like you pointed they more positive names the Empire uses wouldn't be out of place with the Rebellion. The Rebels also go the other way, and like using independent-sounding or virtuous names like 'Liberty', 'Redemption' and 'Independence'.
The Star Destroyers Stalwart and Protector are both from TIE Fighter, if you were wondering where you'd seen them before.
