Some prerequisites:

If you fail at any of the above then what you're doing will simply make you look mentally ill. The only times you should disregard the rules above despite this are on extremely long inter-continental flights as you have a reasonable amount of privacy and the length of the trip makes it worth it regardless of what others might think.

I never see anyone doing anything productive on public transit. They're either scrolling through their feed for Instagram/Facebook or playing a game on their phone. How is that really any different from playing a handheld console? You say lugging around to make it sound like something difficult to do, but I literally just toss my 3ds in the bag I carry with me anyway.
