Wait a second wouldn't the Tyrants be attracted to all the things going on in the latest fluff?
>>
Who would win?

All the tyranid hive fleets Vs. the entire Ork species
>>
No one cares about NPC races.
>>
>>383997552
They'd just stalemate forever as the Orks continue to reproduce and the Tyranids use the dead Orks to do the same thing. Unless the Doom of Malan'tai came in or something but even then the Orks would just get some equal force to tie with so the space marines can come in and save the day
>>
>>383997426
Leviathan just got wrecked, well after buttfucking Blood Angels' ass so hard that Girlyman and their sworn enemy bailed their collective assess out.

There's a new hive fleet popping out anyway: Hydra.
>>
>>383997552
Do the planetoid sized orks get to tag along?
I never hear any news about those guys.
>>
>>383997697
How? From what i read, nids had so many invading and they adapted so fast, it would be impossible to stop them. Unless they are just blowing up every planet they infect now
>>
>>383997818
The largest ork ever canonically was supposedly the size of a Scout titan.
Pick for reference.
Anything larger is just fan fiction.

Is it fanfiction though?
I don't read fanfic stuff and I could have sworn I read something about them somewhere, then again I haven't played since second edition
and I have only looked up some pdf files of newer stuff.
>>
>>383997426
They should be, but GW probably forgot about them in favour of all the drama within the Imperium.
Besides, nobody cares really. Nids make a good adversaries for single, self contained stories, but aren't really that interesting in the large galaxy scale. "They're coming to eat us, we can't stop them and we're basically fucked!" thing got boring a long time ago, especially when everyone knows it's not going to happen anyway.
>>
>>383998228
>They're coming to eat us, we can't stop them and we're basically fucked!

The Tau can just skirmish them away :^)

But I agree, they work better in space hulk-esque settings.
>>
>>383998120
Theoretically orks can grow forever.
But fev acualy survive long enough.
Because they only grow if they fight.
And supposedly as long as they fight they cant die of old age.
>>
>>383997426
So on the latest fluff lets see if Ive got this right.

Cadia went kaboom
Eye of terror is getting bigger
Gullyman is back thanks to imperials and a new Eldar faction.
Eldar faction follows their death god and has troops from almost every other Eldar groups including Dark Eldar.
Commoragh is getting kinda fucked because of a Slaanesh invasion.
Gullyman made new type of Space Marines that are bigger and stronger.

Anything else?

>>383997949

You reckoned without the awesome power of shit writing.
>>
>>383999240

You're a bit over the place.

Cadia exploded, yes.

Eye of Terror cracked the entire galaxy in half. Now there's a giant warp rift splitting right through the middle. Stuff to the north of it is the Dark Imperium; millions of worlds cut off for the past 120 years. You can cross the Great Rift but its extremely risky.

Girlyman got healed by the Ynnari, yes.

Ynnari are the new Eldar faction after Eldrad tried to wake up the god of the dead early to trigger the final destruction of Slaanesh.

Commoragh got invaded by daemons but then the Mandrakes were unleashed. Currently huge sections of the Dark City are controlled by them.

Girlyman didn't directly create the nu-marines, that's Bellisarius Cawl who's been working on them for the past 10,000 years under Gulliman's orders to create a new type of Space Marine more resilient to the corruption of Chaos. Cawl however is taking things pretty far; he's made Primaris Marines out of ALL the geneseed he has access to, including Traitor Legions and the 2 expunged legions. He's also built himself an AI, an actual full-on AI. Gulliman says that Cawl may become a problem that needs to be dealt with later. It's an interesting development.

Apart from that, we don't know a huge amount else. Daemons showed up on Armageddon and turned half the planet into a Chaos waste, forcing Orks and Guard to fight side-by-side. But Angron's summoning was interrupted so he never showed up. Oh, and Death Guard are attacking Ultramar.
>>
>>383999426

Are you a filthy heretic?
>>
>>384000269
>and the 2 expunged legions
They still had gene seed from those two lying around?
>>
>>384000361

Apparently. Cawl doesn't understand why Gulliman thinks this is a BAD IDEA.
>>
>>383999859
Ka'Bandha basically fucked them because he didn't want anyone but himself to destroy the Blood Angels?
>>
>>384000556
Does Cawl know why they were expunged? I assume Gulliman does, so he should probably tell him or something.
>>
>>384000361
There is everything somewhere on Mars, if you know where to look for it.
You know those cellars where people just stash whatever they don't need at the moment instead of getting rid of it and the junk just keeps piling up over the years up to the point when when you actually need something from there you can't even enter the damn cellar because it's blocked by a barricade of agglomerated trash, let alone find what you're looking for?
Mars is something like that, but on a planetary scale
>>
>>383998120
>Is it fanfiction though?
No. It's called the Beast and it nearly raped the Imperium of Man.

It was so powerful it actually caused Orkz to evolve, put the base under the future clan systems Orkz these days operate, made attack planets (opposed to Ghazzy's attack rocks).

Also there was no single Beast, but multiple individuals of the same size and power. And the sizes were indeed large. And also indeed the Imperial Fists fighting him mistook him for a small titan.
>>
>>383999324

The Emperor is godly and is feared by the chaos gods. Wouldn't surprise me if they're doing all they can to prevent the emperor from healing. Even Horus, the greatest chaos champion, infused with the power of the chaos gods was STILL felled by the emperor; his souls completely erased from both the warp and materium.

They didn't balance anything, it was simply heavy metal art done by comic book artists.
It feels unique solely because the amount of European shit in the entertainment market dropped rapidly by now so European comics and music genres are almost unknown to the 90s kids, which is the main 4chan audience.

>>
>>383999426

No. He is on an incredibly advance life support system that keeps his brain functioning. Canonly I think the only parts of him that still work are his right eye and brain. Everything else is a literal rotting corps.
>>
>>384003709
Maybe. I'm sure at one point it was implied that he was the chosen champion of the Chaos gods like Horus but somehow tricked them into giving all the power with none of the downsides and then just told them to fuck off. Thinking it about it, that might just be their story of what happened though.
>>
>>383998324
The sky will turn black with tyranids how the fuck you gonna skirmish that
>>
>>384003970
But if he dies he will be reborn right?
Or has the star child theory been debunked?
>>
>>384004094
Not sure if it's explicitly mentioned anywhere. As far as I remember it from the Horus Heresy novels, Emps went to the Chaos god to get some power from them. He then used at least part of it to create the Primarchs (it's why he could only make a limited amount of them).

He seemed to have not fulfilled his end of the bargain though. Or maybe part of the bargain was to let the chaos gods scatter the primarchs - because he was present when they did it but did not intervene. He actually told Warmaster Horus, who was there thanks to Chaos time fuckery, to not interfere with it either.
>>
>>384004216
If he dies the Empire has a huge problem because the warp hole that Magnus has torn on Terra would reopen.

So letting him die is not really a valid option for them.
>>
why don't they just rebuild the emperor's body?
>>
>>384004482
Creating new technology is forbidden. Seriously.
>>
>>384004273
Ah yeah, that's a better source than what I was thinking of. To be fair though, you can't trust anything in the HH novels that the Emperor or any Chaos god/proxy says. It seems like they had at least an understanding if not an alliance at some stage but clearly there was some sort of falling out because now the Chaos gods hate the Emperor more than anything else, even more than they hate each other.
>>
>>384004482

he's fine, heretic. just needs a lil' rest.
>>
>>384004326

>>
Havent touched any 40k books in a while since Dan Abnett went AFK. How is HH these days? The last one Ive read was Vangeful Spirit, any good ones got released after that?
>>
>>384004609
Yeah, most of the stuff in the HH novels can't be taken at face value.
But I think the part where it is mentioned that Emps somehow attained part of their power and then didn't fulfill his end of the deal is real. We just don't know what exactly he did with it and what his part of the bargain was.
>>
>>384004687
That's assuming that he would be reborn, and assuming that he would be reborn quickly enough to fix things before it's too late.

Not something they can really risk.

They weren't too intelligent, the only reason why the Imperium didn't Exterminatus Ullanor was because they decided they needed to see the Beast die in person.

The Emperor can supposedly rebirth himself, but it's canon he doesn't want to. He is the only thing keeping the Chaos Gods away. If he dies, then Chaos will literally tear apart reality and replace it with pure Chaos. The only way that can be avoided is if the Emperor survives long enough for humanity to evolve and unlock their psychic potential. Untill humanity is strong enough to keep the Warp at bay by itself, the Emperor has to cling to life.

Nowhere as bad as Sigmar. Has way less retcons and they just advance the story the way they've been hinting during the hiatus anyway. Abaddon finally does something, Emperor and Guilleman finally do something. Eldar have a new god, Dark Eldar finally have a crisis of their own instead of just idling around in their Comorragh. Thats it.

I don't get why people have their panties in a twist over AoS, lorewise at least.

Archaon fucks up the Old World with the chaos gods cheering him on. Ultimate victory goes to Chaos, but Sigmar manages to flee the crumbling planet and begins anew elsewhere.

To ensure that Chaos will never again win by such a landslide, he takes matters into his own hands and creates a breed of warriors of his own, to combat the juiced up warriors of chaos. The cycle begins anew as the gods of chaos find their way to this new planet.

Lorewise, it all makes sense. If you are upset that your favorite race got shafted in the process, then that's understandable (though GW is offering ways to play any WHFB army in AoS).

All in all, the only reason I see to be mad at GW is the abysmal pace at which they are releasing actual rules for AoS. They are pushing out models by the truckload, but the game still lacks a centralized core rulebook.

Problem is its just W40K with medieval skin. At least back when W40K became a thing, it was notably different from the Fantasy version, thanks to it taking tons of inspiration from 2000AD.

Now Fantasy lost the last shreds of its own identity it had. Even if GW would've made the new Fantasy look and feel like Witcher and Game of Thrones because they are the biggest fantasy things right now, I would've been more interested than right now which is just GW being inspired by GW.

this. the game was met with enormous amounts of salt particularly from DOW1 fanboys. but the lack of content and balance issues are affecting the game this is indisputable.

it needs another faction because 3 just isn't enough for 40k. 4 minimum. we all know necrons are the next faction which is great, especially since there is no playable evil faction yet (orks aren't actually evil they're like a neutral force really).

until then, the game is going to suffer from low player count until then because its a niche game in a niche genre and a spiteful audience... but what other 40k game are they going to play? DOW1 is old as dirt and DOW2 is deader than dead so... what next?

If you ask Ward, he'll say Draigo was originally an Ultramarine and was personally taught the intricacies of Codex Astartes by Guilliman at the same time they were fist-fighting Greater Daemons and Necron Monoliths with their bare fists.

The reason Horus Heresy even started was because Horus was angry at the fact Emperor didn't make him an Ultramarine.

>>384018748
This would almost be an arguement if GW hadn't prepped the entire campaign with "YOU STEER THE FATE OF THE WORLD" stuff. C'mon buddy, its a bit funny to say fluff and crunch is different for what lead to the ultimate change of crunch by virtue of fluff. This isn't some little backstory about a space marine eating a tyrranid using a rusty fork, this was supposed to be GW finally uniting plot and effect, and being utterly and hilarious scuppered.

If that bothers you then its worth remembering that its all in the past and Chaos """""""""won""""""" so this is all a hiro point.
>>
>>384019201
You think they had two possible endings in store that they would have used accordingly based on how the games went?

AoS has some nice fluff but yeah it's really bare bone compared to Fantasy. The main problem with the fluff from aos is that you can't create good lore from zero.

With the 8th edition GW handled it much better. The fluff got some heavy changes but it still plays in the same universe unlike AoS

The War of Octarius proves that any significant Ork force and any significant Tyranid force will stalemate completely. The battle in the Octarius sector went on for ages, just Nids and Orks smashing into each other, but neither side gaining an advantage because they just kept coming, Orks were swarming in from other sectors and worlds to join the fun, Nids pouring in from the fleet, the fighting was getting so intense that Ork spores were fighting microscopic Nids. Eventually the Eldar realized one side would win given enough time, and what would come out of Octarius would be a fucking nightmare so they used some bullshit secret weapon to wipe the slate clean, forcing the entire conflict to pretty much reset.

Spikers are vaguely cylindrical in shape, and tend to be man-sized, about 2 meters tall and upright. They are covered with a thick layer of hair-like leaves, out of which protrude the countless thin, sharp spikes that give the plant its name. These spikes, which are fired at nearby animal forms, are what make this plant dangerous. Piercing the skin of an animal, they release a mutagenic chemical into the bloodstream that reforms the victim's body into that of a Spiker. A human taking a spike in the arm will soon find his arm become hairy and immobile, and within a short time his whole body will be covered in spikes. Although the victim remains mobile for some time, the physiological changes destroy the mind, so that the victim wanders aimlessly and is unable to react to the horrifying process. Eventually all mobility is lost, and the host completes his transformation into a Spiker.

Oh well that sounds lovely.

Thats what the Eldar believe, and it was just some bullshit fluff to reset the Octarius war
>>
>>384028394
Tyranids that aren't connected to to the hivemind aren't very dangerous, they just become normal animals. Yeah they are still nasty Nids, but they don't move with a singular mind anymore
>>
>>384013729
It'd be really cool to see how a hive fleet caught in a warp storm would react. Shadow or not their synapse connection is warp based.
>>
>>384029223
A warp storm can't catch a Hive Fleet. The Shadow is literally anti-warp and shuts that shit down wherever it goes.
>>
>>384029392
We have no idea what would happen since there is nothing written about nids in a warp storm. The idea that the shadow would do anything to a warp storm is a little silly though.
>>
>>384010894
>Sororitas were formed millennia after the Heresy
What part of this don't you understand?
>>
>>384013527
This, but with the Necrons being fodder, imo.

The Orks and Tyranids will war forever, with the Orks continually reshaping reality to keep their fun going.

Necrons will hold up better than most races but when their worlds are saturated in enemies, every time one pops back up it'll just get knocked down again. Expect Necron worlds to be Ork training grounds. They throw the younglings in and the ones that don't get obliterated get to leave and go pillaging.
>>
>>384029629
Warp storms are a direct connection to the warp though, and wherever the Shadow is cast, the warp just smooths out like water on a windless day, Tyranids literally smother out storms.
>>
>>384031390
Warp storms are so intense that they bleed into normal space and warp reality. They're not just a turbulant warp tide.
>>
>>384031226
I dunno. Necrons are literally anti-life weapons, and Nids and Orks are super life forces. Some baby Tomb World might be a good beat down place for Orks, but a major Tomb World will likely be full of weapons that vaporize Orks to the last spore.

Also Yoofs are shit, if the Necron's aren't stripped of all weapons, they would very likely shred through even the most talented Yoof
>>
>>384031663
Yeah, but a storm can't rise if the warp is being quieted.
>>
>>384032425
Warp storms can do anything.
>>
>>384032659
Nigga, a warp storm cannot FORM if the warp is being smothered by the Shadow. Tyranids are one of the sole things in the galaxy that can calm the Warp completely. I get that Warp Storms aren't just turbulent tides, but they are still Warp related anomalies, not even Daemons want to be anywhere near where the Shadow passes.
>>
>>384033257
Its just a movement in the warp the shadow protects them from predation like a forest fire, but a warp storm is like a wind, it can still shove the fire into a different direction.
>>
why would their synapse connection be warp based when they come from a galaxy with no warp

Freedom to expand plus new FTL technology = massively expanding.

Also, an entire Sphere of Expansion (or whatever they are called) was FUCKING FINALLY consumed by a warp rift and scattered across the galaxy. For the first time since their inception, Tau armies can finally appear anywhere in the galaxy instead of instantly confining the conflict to one tiny corner of the galaxy. I've been complaining about that for years and I'm glad it's finally been resolved.
>>
>>384023153

Except for every Tyranid in the Galaxy there's 100 orks. It's been said by more than a few that if the Orks stopped fucking around and united they'd be able to take over the galaxy everyone else teamed up.

Theres instances of Tyranids invading Chaos worlds, I'd like to read more about that. A Khorne champion and his violent society torn more apart than usual by waves of ravenous beasts.

Is anyone else tired of those "almost there" 40k games? DoW dark crusade, soulstorm and retribution were fun but too flawed to fill that need to play in the 40k setting.

Another day I was playing Helldivers and I just wondered how the fuck they haven't done a 40k game on this style. Fuck there's several types of games that could work on 40k setting, "walking simulation" horrors like outlast 2 and RE 7, racing games on commorragh, even puzzle games for mankind's technicians.

I love Orks, don't need to tell me that. It's also been said, though, that if every bullet in the galaxy killed a single Tyranid, you'd run out of bullets before you run out of Tyranids.
>>
>>384040546
It's very rare that it happens though, as theres nothing on Chaos worlds for Tyranids to eat, since it's all just warp bullshit.

as long as they got the gene seed pre chaos corruption there is basicly nothing wrong with it

>I don't get why people have their panties in a twist over AoS, lorewise at least.

Because I liked having a grimdark fantasy world, not a grimdark stargate atlantis world with sprinkling of norse mythology where everything has a copyright-friendly name like Aelf.

A shame the setting had to be marked for death before they started making decent videogame adaptions of it.

It's going to keep underperforming because it just doesnt have much to offer. The presentation is lacking, the maps are boring and trying to be super competitive, the factions have almost no character.

People like DoW I and II for different gameplay reasons, but I think we can all agree we liked our factions because they really felt like those factions. They had character and even if you didnt like the mechanics, you could like the factions and aspects of the game.
Ive always hated the DoW II multiplayer but I played it anyways because I just love the Imperial Guard that much. I loved Last Stand because I could play as my Imperial Guard without having to play the normal multiplayer, etc.

DoW III has a severe lack of personality.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3j4UGYMW1Tk
I cant even find videos with just the DoW II voice lines
