If Sera was just a shit character, that would be one thing. The hatred comes from the fact that she negatively impacted the potential development via character interaction of Red Magnus to an extent, but more notably Zeroken. Literally any time they tried to talk, Seraphina shoots them. Because of Seraphina, Zeroken was literally denied any potential for growth, since he got shot in lolsofunny scenes every few minutes.
It doesn't help that she really wasn't funny enough to be such a bad character. Even the way they played with her learning nothing fell flat because her character couldn't properly deliver on it.
Finally, she's really just a shittier Rozalin, with a few sprinkles of shittier Artina on top.

Disgaea 1 is unironically one of the worst games NIS has produced mechanically. And I love Disgaea. I would happily play this if they transalted it and it had no gachashit. Mao doesn't seems to have motivation in a bunches scenes he was in is because those scenes weren't about him in the first place. The one thing about D3 is that mao is literally not the only main protagonist, everything that happens outside of the heart bank is pretty much suppose to him observing who ever is relevent at that point in the story so that it can so how be relates to being able to control the hero title, which is fitting seeing as he considers himself a mad genius who loves experiments. I personally liked the story like that until like the ending, I agree that gets pretty weak. Over all though there's like no reason to hate Mao or call him a badly written character.

That's the problem with joke characters, since their appeal is limited and not something that can really carry a full project.

It'd be like launching a spin-off of Street Fighter, but with Dan as the main focus instead of Ryu. The other thing I'm betting on happening is this will potentially be a test bed of sorts to trial new things that may or may not make it to the regular games, since they're already talking about stuff like structures, which I don't believe has been a thing for nearly 12 years now in NIS titles, but makes perfect sense for a mobile game. Nah, I've done everything in all of them. I don't see how anyone can say D3 is their favorite, even the Vita version still had lots of issues and didn't really do anything to salvage the awful main campaign. It has one of the weakest postgames out of any Disgaea too, I'd say only D1 and D5 had worse postgames than it and that's not exactly saying much with how little there is to do in those.

Both Dark Hero Days and A Promise Revisited absolutely shat on Absence of Detention content wise. Vanilla D3 was incredibly short and felt very unfinished, even with all the DLC, and the additions in the remake just barely put it about on par with what most of the other games had during their original release.
You have to be absolutely delusional to think it had one of the best postgames in the series. Like I said, only really D1 and 5 had less than content than it and those two have so little they can easily be finished in a single afternoon so that's not exactly saying all that much.
