If a game doesn't have a good story, it has no purpose or meaning in life and serves only to waste time.

You could argue this about literally everything.

No, if something has a good story or artistic theming, it can bring new revelations to your life and perception of life.

MGS2 has a nonsensical crazy story but it's still more fun and suggestive and interesting than any (or at least most) games that came before it.
Also, everything "tells a story". Just the sight of someones face suggests a possibility or a story. I can tell you're using the retarded version of 'story', though, and in that case you must be an actual retard if you can't give any other part of the game meaning or purpose.

>Also, everything "tells a story".
Telling a story means more than something like Bayonetta or Revengeance, which just has characters engaging in action to determine who wins.
There's no themes, there's no artistry, and if there is no art then there is no meaning to it.

Those games are still giving us a story even if it's just a bunch of fight scenes. I think storytelling can have incredible depths that go beyond fight scenes, but fight scenes are still good stories that hit us viscerally. Both of those games were loaded with themes and artistry, but I guess you found them negligible.
IMO storytelling is really just the artistry of getting an appearance to suggest as much as possible (and mysteriousness isn't just a small part of this meaning). The crazy rollerblading bomb man, vampire man, the lady that deflected bullets with magic, etc, all of those characters are fun because their appearance tells/suggests fun stories, even if we never get some definite "meaning" to it ("meaning" sucks, anyways). Mystery is a higher form of meaning, good storytelling isn't vague but it has a feeling of potential.
Games are meant to be time wasters, you pseudo-intellectual.
If a game has a good story but shit gameplay then there is no point in playing it. I might as well just watch a movie. Games with little to no story usually fill in the void with addictive, fun gameplay, which is the entire point of video games; to be entertaining and interactive.

Everything that isn't sleeping/eating/shitting/pissing, or necessary to achieve the aforementioned, is a waste of time.
So yeah, you're technically right. But games with a good story are also a waste of time, don't kid yourself.
If you don't think good gameplay and level design is art then you need to get the fuck off my board

Games are time-elevators, you elevate time that would otherwise be spent waiting for the next thing to come along. They're not "time wasters" in any sense, they're a fucking miracle of technology. I don't know how you can appreciate them and still call them a waste of time.
