That's why I included it in the screencap anon. It's still far, far closer than the image I replied to. The sandboxier elements, character creation, and modability make it more conducive to multiple playthroughs than TW3. That doesn't make it better or worse than TW3, that just means more people are playing it. Plus, Skyrim is a Steamworks game and TW3 is available on GOG.

Because the longer you play it, the more apparent its shortcomings are. It's better suited to being a fantasy life sim than an actual RPG. It's the same issue Fallout 4 has; everything around the RPG bits is decent, but when you expect the game to act like an RPG, it drops the ball.

I skipped Oblivion and jumping from MW to Skyrim is a nightmare. So many features stripped.

I like it, it has it's flaws but I can look past those as I just enjoy escaping away into the universe and plundering though the Dwarven ruins looking for loot etc. The world is really comfy, just wish Skyrim had a hardcore mode like fallout.

I said it when it came out, and I'll keep saying it: It's a decent game to just zone out and play. It's mindless combat coupled with some degree of customization, and, now more than ever, very, VERY moddable.

Bethesda makes games that range from shitty to okay, but they make A+ bases for modding. Even FO4 is better with mods.

They stripped away systems that were either mostly inconsequential or not very good to begin with and replaced them with huge improvements to the engine and production quality of the game. Sure, things like magic crafting would have been neat to have done professionally in native code, but I'd take the various other enhancements they made over that any day.

Because of normalfags acting like it's the best RPG of all time, even though most of them had never played an rpg before.

In reality Skyrim fails in a very crucial area in order to be an good RPG, it fails spectacularly in making an believable world. Instead it's a world populated by brain dead morons, filled with uninteresting choices and dilemmas. The game covers a conflict between two not necessarily good or evil factions, which in the hands of a good writer could be really interesting, but since the writer(s) at Bethesda are absolutely incompetent at making believable characters and motivations we end up with two factions filled with uninteresting characters, which leads the player to "not give a shit" and you end up not really caring about story in the game at all. The tired cliche of you being the "chosen one" doesn't help at all with making you more invested in the world in slightest. At several points in the game it attempts to cover racial conflicts, but here the game falls flat too, and instead we get and almost humorously childish attempt at covering an otherwise complex issue.

Admittedly you might argue that the quality within Bethesda Softworks is within the freedom and exploration it offers. I'll admit it was kind of interesting to explore Dwarven ruins in the game, but the fact that I couldn't actually find the world believable made it impossible for me to get invested and I always lost interest before the game was over. Even in aspects such as "freedom" the games have these annoying small issues such as invincible NPCs which actually limits my actual freedom a bit. If you're going to offer freedom as a main "feature", then at least give me total freedom. Freedom isn't just the ability to walk wherever you want, but it's also the freedom to do whatever the fuck you want. This was something the older Fallouts did much better.

I've played Ultima 7 eventually dropped it over halfway through because I got tired of the constant fetch quests and how I couldn't just get the information from some NPC without having to complete 5 different quests, subquests and whatnot.

I didn't imply that Skyrim was popular. I was implying because of this year's E3 Beth Conference being mostly either talking about their popular titles, with Skyrim VR being an asspull with the Special Edition being announced last year, and other VR versions of games.

Only new things we got were a sequel to Evil Within and Wolfenstein.

From that and last year, I get the distinct feeling that Bethesda simply doesn't have anything big to show yet, but didn't want to spend two E3's showing very little to nothing at all. Hence pointless shit like Special Edition to bring console modding, and VR because fuck it VR.
