How do you have over 500 hours in FTL? The combat is so linear. 500 hours of waiting for all your laser weapons to be charged at once, clicking the enemy's shield room, waiting again, clicking their guns, sending a guy to the Doors room and opening the external doors and waiting for him to partially asphyxiate before killing him (so you get some combat exp), clicking no when they surrender, then waiting for the last volley to kill, after which you patiently repair the damaged rooms and wait and wait and wait for all your crew to be healed before jumping again, rinse repeat. It's like a flowchart game. It's fun but how after the first 100?

Look up a guide called victory in hard mode. Always roll with your luck, don't try to force a build, just play the hand you're dealt. If you get free weapons, even if they're shitty, you can usually make a good build out of them. Never visit shops unless you have a lot to spend and you actually need something

Why? I mean FTL is for sure worth a buy but its so easy even though it relies so heavily on RNG. Also the "lolsorandum" events playout functionally the same way every time, too easy to exploit the good ones and ignore the bad ones.

i know, i had a feeling my response had that vibe, its hard to fully explain what im saying without a keyboard to type out.

but as far as combat goes as you get further in the game a lot of combat will revolve around good timing to make shit weapons work in your favor, firing one volley while deciding wether to fire your next volley at the shields like you mentioned, or taking out another system that will result in you taking less damage and as a result saving you money. getting efficient combat skills and keeping your health untouched is massively important to the economy of your run.

one other thing is the always denying surrender while giving you more scrap can make you lose out on other essential items fuel missiles etc

each run is unique and i love that you need to adapt to your needs at the moment while keeping in mind what is to come, but i love most of all that shit can always hit the fan.

I picked this game up on the summer sale and I've put about 25 hours or so into it and I'm still getting utterly REKT on east mode.

Furthest I got (ONCE) was the third stage of the flagship battle.

Strategy and decision making outside of combat matters just as much if not more than inside combat.

You need to make jumps that have strong returns, minimize the wasted jumps. You need to have a ship that can handle a wide variety of situations and can't be crippled easily. You need to know when to get upgrades and how to deal with the advancing difficulty in each new sector. You need to maximize the use of the free shit the game gives you.

That is why shields and teleport is the best, it also has just as many variations in play as regular weapons. The only direct counter is the super shield which is easy to remove.

You can attack or jam the O2 and board with lanius crew and a clone bay for support. You drain the oxygen from their ship and at least one crew member will be forced to try to get to their O2 giving your lanius an advantage plus you can teleport them out to safety and the clone bay is a back up.

You can use mantis for straight up damage or cheese with a mantis/rockmen combo and force the rockman into the attacked slot.

Robots are a good first wave but they are situational because they are hard to find.

Not to mention teleport completely trivializes the last boss because you just shut down its weapons one by one and they cant be fixed unless you kill the whole crew.

It is so fun but it is so effective that it caused me to stop playing, what was the point after discovering such a consistent and effective strat. With a lanius or mantis crew focusing on teleport and shields all you need is basically any weapon and you will win if you avoid events that aren't profitable. All dat scrap.

It's a game of counters. You need to be able to counter your enemies, never outright beat them. There are many ways to do this. I already talked about teleports earlier in this post but another effective one if you like weapon based combat is hacking. Hack their shields and target specific systems. Hack is pretty OP, it's hard counter is another hack but you still get a full cycle to fuck up their shit.

I still prefer teleport because you get more scrap for leaving the ship whole. You actually find that you have trouble finding things to spend it on.

nigga if you want to cheese with boarders just constantly move them when they get into 2v2 combat. with the right rooms you can constantly 2v1 them.

Doesn't sound like you even played it with anything other than Burst Mk2. I mean it's a decent weapon for the first few sectors but especially with AE and the new systems there are so many good builds now (which goes for enemy ships too) that almost every encounter on normal or hard is like a little chess match.

I'm not talking shit about your skill as an FTL player, but everyone knows Stealth B is complete and total garbage of the highest order and the only real way to get a win is to either win the lottery with jumps which never happens, or you do the really lame tactics folks have figured out.

I already know you got lucky in the first second with no drone ship jumps otherwise you ain't making it anyway so don't even bother bringing up the fact you got lucky with no drone ships.
