Define regret. Started playing New Vegas for teh first time a few weeks back and the first thing i did was siding with the bandits and we killed anyone in the town.
Wanted to see how far the game lets me go and be an "evil dude" compared to any other RPG out there.
Shit was comfy and felt neat. In the end i never really feel "regret" for doing a bad thing, only if i loose something important gameplay wise out ofi t.
Fuck morals, i only let you nigger live if you're important otm e gameplay wise.

The Kotor moment I posted would be a good example. You force persuade a party member to kill their best friend (another party member), because she wouldn't tolerate your edgyness anymore. Every evil choice I made until that point didn't do anything for me, but this one just fucked me up. It just felt like the cruelest thing to do.

In Honest Hearts I had the Sneering Imperialist perk and used the skill check that tells Joshua Graham to pop a bullet on Salt-Upon-Wounds' head. I really regretted it though afterwards in the endings.

Don't remember that one in particular. Some of the edgy choices made me uncomfortable at best, but nothing like the Mission thing. Probably because I'm one of the rare people who actually liked her and the fact that her and Zalbaar are one of the first party members you meet in the game. I always played Bioware rpg's as a boy scout, so you can see how this scene in Kotor surprised me.

Given the way that video games are constructed there are very few that are capable of portraying evil as a viable option. For an evil route to make sense I think there would have be quite a few systems within the game working directly against the player which would probably result in an overall terrible game. By the nature of video games the player knows that there is atleast one and often multiple paths through wich the end goal can be achieved and even when mistakes are made you can just reload and un make them. Throw in the way the world almost always revolves around the player with events remaining static until you interact with them and that completing quests reward characters with xp and also the player with content in return for their investment and you have an experience in which there are none of the pressures needed that make evil choices logical and instead it comes down to if you want to be a cunt for the sake of being a cunt or not.

It could have worked in a situation like in the third Fable game where you have to be a dick to prevent the invaders from ruining everything, but the cop-out (being able to just grind out money and be a nice guy) kind of ruined it IMO. If there's going to be an "everyone wins" option it should be heavily discouraged from the get-go and impossibly hard.

The Fable games had potential but none of them really reached it IMO. Also, I wish Fable 2 got a PC release. I replayed it recently and god damn my old 360 was choking on it.

In ToS2, Zelos is LITERALLY THE ONLY CHARACTER FROM THE ORIGINAL PARTY who never, ever even remotely doubts Lloyd for a second. He's a true friend.

Also, he doesn't betray you, it was a bait and switch to get a drop on the enemy. Funny thing is if you do the optional sidequest to get Kratos in your party instead and kill Zelos, Zelos is fucking devastated that you betrayed him back because he wanted to help. It's really depressing.

Try playing it again and actually pay attention to him, he is one of the most developed characters in the game.

In MGS3, on that pier area by the water, I took out all the guards with the tranq gun, and shook them off for supplies. I shook one off and accidentally pushed him a little, he slipped off the end of the pier into the water. Apparently the tranquilizer was so strong he stayed unconcious under water and drowned to death. It bothered me because even though I killed a few enemies in that game, he wasn't meant to die. I remembered it on the sorrow when he stumbled past me in the river, reaching out to me. RIP Soviet henchman, I'm sorry, I hope your family get a good pension and have fond memories of you.
