>A remaster of a 20 year old trilogy destroying every platformer Nintendo has made for the last two decades
How did they do it /v/?
>>
it's fun and not pandering to autistic manbabies
>>
>>383924239
>>383924837
You meant to post an image or Rayman, right?
>>
>>383925132
no, but that's another good and fun game.
>>
>>383925229
Right, better than crash.

Hell, Crash can't even destroy mario's kart racer games. Sega did that.

They took a franchise that's been dead for nearly a decade and brought it back by remastering the most successful titles
It's not that hard to imagine it being a success
>>
I dunno if the Crash trilogy beats out Tropical Freeze or Galaxy 2 wholesale but most of Nintendo's other platformers in that timeframe? Eh, I guess.
>>
>>383924239
>Nintendo adds NEW games to existing franchises
FUCKING REHASHES NINTENDO HAS NO GAMES NINTENDOOMED
>Sony sells literally the same games from 20 years ago
IT HAS BETTER GRAPHICS AND THE GAMEPLAY IS TWEAKED IT'S NOT A REHASH
>>
>>383925347
>Crash can't even destroy Mario's kart racer games
What is CTR
>>
It's weird how 20 year old games feel so fresh and fun after so much trash.
>>
>>383925713
Not as good as Double Dash onwards. Equal to or better than games before DD.
>>
>>383924239
How's it destroying every Nintendo Platformer?
People complain about 3D world being linear and having boring and repetitive themes in its levels but that's even more the case for Crash, specially the first.
>>
>>383925675
>Sony
Nigger this is Activision's doing
>>
>>383925675
that's because Nintendo literally make the same games over and over, while sony just let it happen on his console.
>>
>>383925837

Crash is actually challenging for more than 2 levels.
>>
>>383924239
Sounds more like people on Sony platforms are starved for good platformers, because crash isn't even as good as the NSMB games - and those are pretty much the worst Mario games.
>>
>>383925961
There's only 2 rope bridge levels.
>>
>>383926067

>because crash isn't even as good as the NSMB games

I like NSMB but no.
>>
They made one fatal flaw

>>
>>383925961
go play some of those new Donkey Dong games

>>383926067
This. Crash is still good, though.
>>
>>383926139
they're better than Crash 1
Crash 2 and 3 improved a fucking lot from the first.
>>
>>383925825
False.
>>
>>383926126

There are shitters on this very board that can't get past Native Fortress, let alone the bridge stages, Slippery Climb or Fumbling In The Dark. Meanwhile, with 3D World only Champion's Road really pushes anyone's shit in. It's a good ass level, but it's the only really memorable one.

>>383926205

Yeah, Returns and Tropical Freeze definitely get it right.
>>
>>383926171
ayyyyy

i'd say reddit but this would probably trigger them eh?
>>
>>383925675
>blames Sony for what Activision makes
Yep, this is a bait console wars thread and it worked
>>
I'm glad platformers are making some kind of a comeback on non-Nintendo systems, even if it's mostly nostlagia pandering.
>>
>>383926496
Also, only 50% of people have gotten past Ripper Roo in Crash 1 according to trophies.
>>
>>383926496
Well then I guess it's all subjective because I didn't find any level in any Crash other than the robe bridges difficult and those were also fucking terrible and boring.
Sure 3D World doesn't have difficult levels either but difficulty isn't even close to being the most important thing in a platformer and if you think it is then just go play some rom hacks or IWBTG and that kind of stuff.
>>
>>383926881
>Ponies don't actually play games
What a surprise
>>
>>383927125
> difficulty isn't even close to being the most important thing in a platformer
Wrong.
>>
>>383925825
Wrong, you fucking retard lmao
>>
>>383927223
It shows how casual people are these days. I wish other companies did the same so we could see the stats.
>>
>>383927276
If you really think that you shouldn't even be playing Crash at all, there are tons of platformers out there way harder, Crash is only actually difficult when compared to Mario and Kirby.
>>
>>383924239
Better question, how do you continue to lie to yourself?
>>
>>383924239
How well did the trilogy do exactly? I keep hearing how the game sold out in several European markets but no concrete numbers so far.
>>
>>383926290
Crash 1 is the best one though

The gimmicks added in later games muddled the quality of the gameplay a lot
>>
>>383924239

Destroyed in what way OP?

If your going to mention sales, that's irrelevant, Crash would sell better on a Nintendo platform
>>
>>383927902

2 had a cool thing going with the slide mechanics but I feel like it's dragged down by the sheer obscurity of its secrets, there's some real guide bait going on in those games where as 1 was straightforward but simply challenging to pull off its secrets. 3 reeled back the obscurity of 2 a bit but then the mechanics somewhat broke the platforming and the gimmick levels started getting rather numerous. I do think 1 is ultimately the best straight-up platformer whereas 2 and 3's new ideas were double edged swords.
>>
>>383927902
The level design in Crash 1 is fucking atrocious levels drag on for too long without doing anything new or interesting or even getting harder most of the time and man those fucking bosses, I can't believe someone approved them.
>>
Even Yoshi's New Island is better than Crash. And that's considered bottom of the barrel among Nintendo fans.
>>
>>383928258

I dunno, Crash 1 throws some ballsy timing/pattern mix-ups at the player. It's not about what it does - its bag of tricks is admittedly limited - but rather how it's done, and Crash 1 isn't afraid to trip you up for shits and giggles.

>>
>>383924239
Do people really think Crash is good? It doesn't even compare to jap platformers
Westerners can't into level design.
>>
>>383928756

All I have left for plats is the High Road time trial and I swear to God that shit is broken. I'll keep at it but god fucking damn.

Every single mario game has functioning hitboxes
>>
>>383928613
What do you mean by pattern mix-ups? putting a hot pipe right after an icy slippy one?
I really can't think of level segments much more complex than that, maybe put an enemy right after where you land but most enemies in crash are a joke thanks to the spin attack.
>>
>>383927902
No it wasn't
>Being flat out released with the bug where dying made your box count restart for regular gem levels causing the game to be bullshit levels of hard on accident
>The bossfights were boring examples of "sit and wait for boss to be vulnerable" bullshit
>Many platforming segments have you sitting and waiting to move forward
>Camera is a fucking anus for levels like Toxic Waste and Cortex Power
>Hog levels were bullshit as you had to fucking memorize the pattern of how obstacles moved
>>
>>383928756
>15
Jesus christ time flies
>>
>>383928781
The absolute best platformer level design is actually found in a game made in Texas
>>
>>383929414
Are you talking about Retro? Because they get helped by japs.
>>
>>383928756
Nice I basically gave up on those added time trials. will do the ones on crash 3 though because god damn I managed to go through those when I was young so can't fail.
>>
>>383929252

The very beginning of Slippery Climb comes to mind as a basic example. There's those 4 moving platform jumps and for the first 3 platforms there's a decided rhythm to it but for the last platform the timing is changed up just a bit so if you're autopiloting on that rhythm you'll miss the jump. Or like in Fumbling In The Dark where the moving platforms always flow ideally into continuous movement except for one time towards the beginning where the moving platform appears away from you so again, autopilot into the expected rhythm and you die. Crash 1 slips in quite a few little subtle things like that which can trip up a player who's just coasting and not really paying attention.
>>
>>383930000
Needing things like that to keep the player's attention really tells a lot about the game.
>>
>>383929648

Time trials are much more bearable if you do them in reverse game order. 3's are the easiest barring a couple of exceptions, 2's ultimately isn't much harder than 3 once you get the speed shoes, and 1's are actually pretty generous for the most part in regards to respecting the flow of the level design - you can feel like you're going too slow or standing still for too long yet still be well on your way to a gold/plat. That all said, they all have their difficulty spikes and fair warning, you ARE going to want to break things on the High Road time trial should you go for it. But yeah, it's surprisingly doable.
>>
>>383930374
>do the games in reverse order
Don't.
>>
>>383930190

I mean sure, the design is simplistic and samey but it also forces you to stay aware of your surroundings and even plan your movements a couple steps in advance. Crash 1 is not the game to think about your actions as they come, sometimes it takes looking at a situation and thinking it through a little. I think it does remarkably well with what it's working with.
>>
>>383924239
Naughty Dog, copying other games since 1996
>>
>>383930478

Re-adapting to the older game's mechanics isn't that hard. I went for Crash 1's after doing Crash 2/3 and I really didn't miss the slide, spin glide or speed shoes. But hey, if you're actually confident about time trials (and I personally hate speedrunning so I'm not) then yeah, just do them in normal order.
>>
>>383930374
high road is somewhat easy, mostly have problems with the longer levels. not that many in crash 1 but still pain in the ass
>>
>>383926564
i'll say it for you.

reddit
>>
>>383931091

The problem with High Road is the fucked turtle hitboxes and still more fucked rope collision detection.
>>
>>383924239
It's a great game, but you're talking shit and you know it.
>>
>>383924239

>>
>>383932007
Right, there's nothing to obsess about in that pile of shit called Mario franchise.

>>383932007
