P5 suffers from pretty much trying to take middle ground with all P3 and P4 issues in terms of writing and ending up in the middle, excelling in neither SLinks or main plot.
In P3, all character development was in main story and SLinks felt boring and pointless outside of better demons and waifushit.
In P4, all character development is in SLinks which never affects the main story and thus the characters never really change in story sections.
In P5 they tried spitting this between both but ending up neither so they never really develop in the plot OR SLinks so you're stuck with a fucking mediocrity.

Honestly I think P5 writing is pretty fucking meh all things considered despite being a substantially better game than P4 overall and MUCH better than all its predecessors in terms of gameplay except P1 and P2 in terms of dungeon design which is better in those two.
