Most reviewers I've read that have tackled that question suggest that the game wouldn't have done so well. The graphics aren't great and the physics engine doesn't really do much more than what Minecraft does.

But being a Legend of Zelda title is part of the game too. You're not just paying for gameplay and graphics, you're paying for that nostalgia of being Link in Hyrule again. For helping Zelda defeat Ganon and visit the Zora, Gerudo and Goron. Those things matter too.

It wouldnt make a difference to me. The combat would still be fluid, the physics would still be fun, the game would still be litered with puzzles and things to find, the artstyle would still look good, and it still all would be polished as hell.

The fact that it has a Zelda skin is just a bonus

You'll feel like a bird who has had its wings clipped since there are a lot less movement options in general, and you'll probably get tired of getting bogged down by the generic story cutscenes when all you want to do is play. While the graphics are nice, the motion captured faces look jarring and everything is some shade of blue or orange. That's how I felt, haven't enjoyed HZD enough to play it for more than a few hours and I doubt I'll go back to it at this point.

Not him, but I would be a lot kinder to BotW if it was a new IP.
Lack of enemy variety would be forgivable because they had to make everything completely new, but BotW has 30 years of history to refer back to, so it's disappointing that certain enemies that have become staples are conspicuously absent. Same thing for the lack of dungeons, caves and item progression. If this was a new IP I'd have no reason to expect any of that in there so I wouldn't be upset by how little it offers in comparison to other Zeldas. Combat shrines would still suck no matter what though.

They shouldn't have to be skipped, because they shouldn't exist period. Instead of making them in the first place, why didn't they focus on making the game run at a stable framerate (which is 60 FPS, not a single frame lower)? As long as the game is held back by hardware limitations, I'm being forced to experience the game at an objectively worse performance, and therefore the cutscenes aren't skippable, at least their disgusting impact on the game isn't.

Aside from completely ruining the point of exploration by essentially being cinematic tripmines that await you if you explore, and thus forcing you into a cutscene where your only recourse is to mash through it or skip it, I'd say it is a detriment. They're essentially your "reward" for exploring the overworld, which is like rewarding me for finishing a treasure hunt by giving me a root canal.

I've played both. BotW is a flawed master piece, great at what Zelda traditionally did poorly, mediocre at what it traditionally did great. Great template for future games. 8/10 for the series, 10/10 compared to other games released this year.

HZD is generic, floaty, western cuck shit. Horrible, "animation based" movement, terrible AI, terrible SJW world. It's the kind of western shit game where, if you press forward on the analog stick for example, you can expect your character to not move for a full half a second because she needs to do some wavy, "realistic" walking animation. A graphics and marketing focused game, with design and gameplay an after thought. 4/10 at best.

because people have to remember that this 'tradition' has to look a long way back, because zelda hasn't actually had good dungeons since back in the nintendo 64 days
WW, TP & SS all had a crop of linear uninspired hallway simulators with no good level design, just one or two good exceptions or decent levels, but mostly crap. Even the awesome gimmicks like the Sky Keep get ruined by the recycled material and bad content within the gimmick structured levels (and lack of boss)
WW was the worst by far of course with its 100% linear handhold dungeons

BotW might have had mediocre dungeons compared to those, but zelda hasn't had good dungeons in ages
