If it means moving to a new style, I would put up with it. The games were never "bad" per say, they just got repetitive after a while.

The only real issue with the NSMB games is that they're all the same. The original Super Mario Bros. games, 2 JP aside, were all very different from one another. The NSMB series is just a bunch of iterative improvements on the exact same game.
